What do socks have to do with leadership?

At last week’s Family Business Association (FBA AU) 'Meet the Owner' event hosted by Quickmail, attendees heard how Sophie Stott and her father John Paul Tedeschi saw the market shifting before their eyes.

They turned a traditional brochure-catalogue mailing service into a thriving eCommerce distribution business ... one parcel (and pair of promotional socks) at a time.

They shared their story and it wasn’t sugar-coated. It was a real and raw story about innovation, growth, failure, succession and uncomfortable truths every family business faces:

🧭 There can only be one leader.
💬 You need people who tell you the truth.
💡 Hard decisions don’t get easier with time.

It was a great reminder that leadership isn’t about profit — it’s about people, purpose and passing the baton with trust.
