Find your tribe. Changing your environment and who you engage with regularly can have seriously powerful effects on your behaviours and mood
Spend your time with those who encourage behaviours that you want to develop. Want to be strong? Hang out with strong people. Want to be a better dancer? Go to a class and hang out with dancers. Want to eat well? Go out with like-minded friends

Whether you want to get stronger, fitter, faster, or if your goal is weight loss itβs your current body that will get you where you want to be
Thinking negatively about your body does not serve you in any way and will just slow down your progress. Hating your body is a quick ticket to unhappiness
Wanting to change or improve your body, and respecting where your body is now, are not mutually exclusive
Be your own best friend, treat your body with love and respect, and watch yourself change for the better, mentally and physically ππ

I don't like 'work smart, not hard'. It makes people think that they can somehow outsmart hard work, or that with the latest science-backed program and training principles, their goals will come more easily.
A true, smart, science-backed program is not easy. In fact, it should be structured in a way that allows you to WORK AS HARD AS POSSIBLE, while reducing injury risk and allowing you to recover.
I'm not saying throw caution to the wind and train as hard and as heavy as you can everytime, but if you haven't approached failure or missed a rep here and there, I believe you've got a little more in the tank.
Plenty of insanely strong people, and amazing physiques have been built by people training like savages.
Think you can do another rep? Push for it.
Think you can take more weight on the bar? Try.
Fury trumps theory, everytime π€

We're built for fight of flight π
As animals, we have a number of biological tools in place to help us deal with intense, but short-lived stress. Think about fighting off a tiger, or running the f**k away!
To do this, the body mobilises you to move with power by:
β
οΈ Elevating blood pressure
β
οΈ Elevating blood sugar
β
οΈ Priming muscles and the brain
βοΈ Restricting blood flow to 'non-essential' areas; digestion, reproduction etc.
But these processes are maladaptive when it comes to dealing with chronic stress, even if it's minor and not life threatening β οΈ
Because chronically elevated stress levels (high cortisol) and all those adaptive processes we just touched on above, now lead to chronic:
βοΈ High blood pressure
βοΈ High blood sugar
βοΈ Muscle and CNS fatigue
βοΈ Cognitive decline
βοΈ Digestive issues
Now, instead of being primed to survive, everything from the flu to a predator, are more likely to kill you!
So if you're experiencing chronically elevated stress levels, no matter what the cause, you NEED to be reducing your stress EVERYDAY
Something as simple as:
5 to 10 mins of breathwork or meditation
Spending time with family and friends
Getting stuck into a hobby
Can make a huge difference. And if you're dealing with a relationship or job that causes you significant, long-term stress. Rethink that.
So chill out whenever you can. You'll live not only longer, but a lot better π
