For Ava’s 13th birthday, I tried to surprise her with a shoutout from her basketball idol . I sent a DM, replied to stories, even gave TikTok a crack — but no luck. Message stayed on ‘delivered’. Totally understandable with how busy she must be, especially just coming home from 3x3 international duties.

Fast forward a month, we were at an finals game — Anneli’s Perth Redbacks vs the Warwick Senators (a team I actually grew up playing and coaching for). As we walked to our seats, Anneli was just coming off the court from her pregame warmups. Ava, a bit nervous, asked me if she should try for a photo. I told her to go for it. Even with a big game ahead, Anneli didn’t hesitate. She smiled, posed for the pic, and honestly ‘made her night’ in Ava’s own words.

More than just a photo, I hope that moment stays with her — and that seeing her idol up close gives her the confidence and aspirations to step onto the court in her own games with the same skill, fight, and tenacity that Anneli showed that night.

I’ve been coaching Jack, a dedicated carpenter, since Feb ‘24. New to the gym, initially we worked through a shoulder injury and successfully built strength, mobility and confidence back into the shoulder. Over time Jack has experienced huge gains in strength and confidence in all barbell and dumbbell movements.

Towards the back end of October, Jack came to me wanting to change his body heading in to summer and go through a structured mini cut. With long hours on-site and limited time, we needed a simple, effective plan that fit his lifestyle.

I set Jack up with an easy-to-follow meal plan that included foods he already loved. Over time, he’s learned how to swap in different foods while keeping his calories and macronutrients on track—making flexibility second nature.

Fast forward 6 weeks and 6.1kgs later, Jack’s built solid habits. He’s now adding extra training sessions into his week and finishes every workout with additional cardio (not prescribed by me).

Jack’s results aren’t just physical—they’re a reflection of his commitment to the process.
