FASTING
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Intention/purpose vs. just following a ‘diet trend’ is an important consideration when making lifestyle decisions. Many diet trends are ‘hyped’ in diet culture with poor or little evidence to support their claims.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Some questions to ask yourself;
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What is the purpose for fasting? If it’s to decrease your eating window to better manage appetite then I am all for it.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If it’s for cell regeneration benefits & improving low grade inflammation then this is also scientifically well shown.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Many believe you will ‘burn fat’ from fasting - this is not directly true.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Further to this delaying the onset of meals for some may also lead to sugar cravings and over consumption at the first meal which may impact your attempts across the day of achieving a calorie deficit.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Majority of the fat loss related studies reveal that fasting vs. non fasting groups who ate the same caloric intake didn’t loose any additional weight at the end of trials.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Your lifestyle decisions are highly personal and if you are prone to binge eating, choosing highly processed foods after pushing out meals, electrolyte imbalances, low blood pressure or you struggle with time restricted eating windows, fasting is not for you.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m not anti-fasting, but intention, purpose & application matters.
