What a weekend of racing we have had! the Blackwood river never disappoints and the annual trip to Molloy Holiday Park one again provide the race fam with many laughs and great comradery.
A huge thankyou to our race organiser Alan Bijl and also the generosity from the team at Gentronics. The weekend packs for the kids and goodies for the support crew were top notchπ
Day 1 of the event saw all craft set off on what has been the lowest water we have attempted in this event and it proved to be a navigational challenge with only 2 of our craft making it through to the Jalbarragup stop. There was no rest for the winches and crews to get through the first 42KM.
The decision was made to call off day 1 after we learnt of the fate of the other craft who had just as much trouble turning back and rescuing a boat that had partially sank and required river-side mechanics to get it back running, needless to say the entire crew had a very eventfull first day.
With Day 1 now short and the river level well understood it was decided to go and look at Schroders crossing as this was a concern, glad we did as there was no safe passage down the crossing with a 1.5mtr drop straight onto the rocks below!
A change for what would now be the race was made and a sprint over 82km from Molloy to Schroders and back again was decided to be the best we could do for the remaining teams, all agreed this was the best and after changing our GPS timing set up we were ready to go.
Sunday morning saw us all up and ready within only one retirement pre race due to mechanical issues from day 1.
The teams all set off with 30 second intervals chasing all the way to a regroup point just down stream of Schroders, the to section proved to be more of a challenge than first thought with some significant obstacles just below the surface to catch out those not 110% on their game!
A quick regroup and the leg home was on, fair to say the lead changed no less than 4 times across the 8 timing gates we had set up proving the new Formula class was right on point as well as the Group B boats getting right amongst the mix!!
We will get some footage up of both days racing when time permits but for now check out some of the pictures below and the race results and timing!!
For now enjoy and if you have some pictures to share, please do so!!!
