At Westside, we’re always looking for ways to help our riders progress, build confidence and create a fun and safe environment for everyone. We have a few updates to share with our BMX community!
BEGINNER SESSION – RIDER PROGRESSION
We’ve been closely watching our beginner session and have seen some massive improvements in some of our riders! It’s fantastic to see the confidence, skills and progress being made.
Over the next few weeks, we’ll be inviting some riders who are ready for the next step to move across to our 6:30pm session.
If you have any questions about your rider’s progression or what this means for them, please come and have a chat with us. We’re more than happy to help!
INTRODUCING SUPPORT RIDERS
We’ll also be introducing the role of a Support Rider during our beginner sessions.
This could be a parent riding alongside their child who is new to pedals, or an experienced rider helping a newer rider learn the ropes.
Support Riders will wear a fluoro vest so they can be easily identified on the track. This will help everyone recognise those who are there to provide additional support and encouragement to our beginners.
OPEN TRACK SESSION – 6:30pm - 8:00pm
To improve rider safety and help keep things flowing smoothly through the first and second straights, we’re introducing a new requirement for our open track session.
From 7:00pm, all riders must be able to independently start from the top of the ramp. Half-hill starts will no longer be permitted during this session.
This change is about keeping everyone safe, maintaining a consistent flow of riders and making the most of our track time.
A TRIAL PHASE – YOUR FEEDBACK MATTERS!
These updates are being introduced on a trial basis, following discussions with our committee and members of the BMX community.
We want to continue building an environment where riders of all abilities can develop their skills, enjoy their time on the track and feel safe doing so.
If you have feedback, questions or suggestions please come and speak with us! We value input from our riders, parents and wider BMX community as we work through these changes together.
