Welcome back after the school holiday break!
Thankfully the rain stayed away, allowing us to get back out on the field and do what we love. After a break from school and no training due to the weather, the team put in a fantastic performance.
This week we took on Mandurah Black and came away with a great win. It was wonderful to see the boys pick up right where they left off, showing great teamwork, determination and enthusiasm across the field.
There were some fantastic tries scored by Axel and AJ, with both boys making the most of their opportunities and putting plenty of points on the board.
This week's Player of the Day goes to our youngest player, Isiah! Don't let his age fool you—he's an absolute pocket rocket. He plays with so much determination, courage and heart every single week, and this game really showcased what he is capable of. His fearless attitude and outstanding effort made him a very deserving recipient of Player of the Day.
A fantastic way to kick off the second half of the season. Well done, Blues—we can't wait to see what the next few weeks bring!

It was a very tough game for our Red Team this weekend.
For most of the first half we played with one less player, but the team still gave it their all and never gave up. Every player worked hard and that makes a coach really proud.
The result didn’t go our way, but we saw some real fighting spirit from the players out there.
Focus areas for next week:
We need to keep working on our rucks so we can secure our ball and keep possession.
We also need to keep competing for the ball and try to win more turnovers.

Kingsley worked hard in both attack and defence and led by example all game.
Well done team — heads up, we learn and we come back stronger next week 💪

Was a competitive game on the weekend with some good indicators on how the team have come on from the start of the season.
With two tries coming in either half, the kids kept pushing and never gave up.

Lions U12s v Soaks
As a coach I feel this week was a tough ask for our team in Round 10 against Soaks, going down by the narrowest of margins in a tough fought contest, which I feel we were not expecting.
It was an especially emotional day for the team as we came together to support one of our players following the recent loss of his mum. The players showed great character, resilience and sportsmanship throughout the game, playing for each other and standing united when it mattered most.
While the result didn’t go our way, every player should be proud of the effort, teamwork and heart they showed this week. Some games are about much more than the final score, and this was one of them. We win together and we lose together.
We are incredibly proud of the way the team represented themselves, and our thoughts continue to be with our teammate and his family.
3 point this week went to Logan. He was on fire did not miss a tackle. Great work.
2 point went to Oakley as always plays. Lead from the front scoring some great solo trys.
1 point went to George. Carried lots of ball and was a real threat.
4 games left of the season so let finish on a high and be the best we can be.

With only 4 games left this season, it’s time to lift the intensity.
Today’s game showed that our biggest areas to improve are fitness and tackling. We need to be fitter, work harder for longer, and make our tackles count. These will be our main focus at training next week.
A big thank you to the Under 12 players who helped us out today. Your effort and willingness to step in were really appreciated.

Massive thank you to Samantha for looking after our scoring and subs again, Lyndel and Rob for bringing oranges and lollies and Derek who looks like he's recovering well post foot surgery returning to his gazelle like form, running the touch line for us.. Very much appreciated.. Thank you..
We went into yesterdays game well aware of what Wests bring to the table, they are well drilled, well coached, play very direct and bring a physical edge to the way they play the game.. With a number of our players unavailable due to injury and a very thin bench, yesterday was always going to be a huge test for us and a good indicator as to how tight we are as a group and how deep we were willing to dig for each other.. I couldn't have been prouder!! The game wasn't pretty, it was stop-start, our set piece was tested constantly and frustration levels were high on both sides of the field, so to embrace the grind and enjoy the banter, I feel like it showed a tremendous amount of character from our kids..
Yep, there's definitely areas that we need to revisit and clean up.. Not just on the field, but in the coaches box too.. I have a couple of learnings for myself to take away this week that I'll share with the kids this week, but there is still plenty for us to celebrate.. Watching Xavier make his first run-on start was very cool and also appreciating the efforts of our players who were playing out of position is important for us too.. Michael played his first game at Blindside flanker and he looked like he's played there his whole life, lifting and jumping in the lineout and protecting his patch at scrum time, he was awesome.. Daniel moved into the front row at scrum time and on a day where the scrum battle was pivotal to the outcome of the game, Daniel was sensational!! Utterly selfless, to me Daniel defines the phase "Team first".. Fil mentioned to me that he thought with a few more reps, we might have a bit of secret weapon with Daniel in the front row!! Malosi's first day of throwing lineouts happened on a day when the wind was gusting 20 knots up the field and we were up against a cunning Wests pack.. Malosi's throwing was accurate and his timing with his jumpers looked like he's been throwing our lineout all year!! Incredible effort boys!!

Heathcliff was our Player of the Match this week.. There were moments in the match where Heath's effort making a critical stop, or a vital clean, or a strong carry, captured back momentum for us, or changed the trajectory of the game.. Big game players stand up in big moments and that exactly what Heath did yesterday.. Another one of our players who is completely selfless and puts the needs of his team before anything else.. You're a special human Heath and you were absolutely sensational yesterday!!

Saturday was about so much more than rugby.

To every player, coach, volunteer, family and supporter who wrapped the Love whānau in kindness and showed what our club and rugby community are all about, thank you. Your compassion, respect and support have meant more than words can express.

We are incredibly proud of all of our players and teams for the way they represented our club both on and off the field.

Saturday 8 August | The Den | Final Home Game

Get ready for one of the biggest days on the Southern Lions calendar - our Multicultural Round, Sponsors Day and final home game of the season.

Southern Lions has always been a proudly multicultural club. Our players, families, volunteers, supporters and past members come from many different nationalities, cultures and backgrounds. That diversity is one of our greatest strengths, and this day is our opportunity to celebrate it together.

Come down to support the Lions in our final home games!

The day will include:

We encourage everyone to come dressed in something that represents their cultural background. This could be traditional clothing, cultural colours, a flag, a jersey, or anything that reflects your family’s heritage and story.

Multicultural Round is about more than food, music and performances. It is about creating a space where everyone feels seen, respected and welcome. It is about bringing people together, learning from one another and being proud of the many cultures that make Southern Lions the club it is today.

There will also be a special raffle, with proceeds going towards supporting a valued Southern Lions family following a recent family loss. As a club, we want to stand alongside them and show the care, strength and unity of our Lions community.

It wasn’t the game results we were chasing, but there were plenty of performances across the grades that deserve recognition. A huge congratulations to our 'Best on Ground' recipients, and the players who stood up for their teammates all day.

Our 'Best on Ground' players receive a voucher from The Gate Bar & Bistro, proud sponsor of our Player of the Match awards.

We also want to thank Body for Life for supporting our players with Recovery room session vouchers.

🔵Reserve Grade
-Brandon Televave takes out Best on Ground after an outstanding performance from the big man. Only in his second game back from injury, Brandon put his body on the line from start to finish, Huge effort!
-Dan O’Donnell receives the Body for Life Recovery session voucher. A well-earned reward after another hard-working shift for the team.

🔵Premier Grade Women
-Shanell takes out Best on Ground. Her defence was immense, tackling everything in sight and bringing effort into every moment of the game.
-A special mention also goes to Sharnah Komene, who receives the Body for Life Recovery voucher. Sharnah is the definition of versatile: able to play across the backline, in the scrum, and this week stepping up during the game at prop for the team. That willingness to do whatever is needed does not go unnoticed.

🔵Third Grade
A huge week for the Dinsdale brothers.
-Jayden Dinsdale takes out Best on Ground, while Johnny Dinsdale receives the Body for Life Recovery voucher. Outstanding efforts from both brothers, who have been putting together a strong season and came out on top this week.

🔴Rugby This Weekend 🔴
There are no senior club games this weekend, but there is still plenty of rugby to get around with some juniors being at home on Saturday morning.

The Western Force Women are in a semi-final at 2:00pm at HBF Park, followed by the Wallabies taking on Italy at 6:00pm. Get down, support the women and Wallabies and enjoy a massive day for rugby.

🥈 Congratulations to our Under 11s on finishing as Cup Runners-Up at the Bunbury 7s this weekend!

What an incredible effort from the entire team. You played with heart, determination and outstanding teamwork, representing the Southern Lions with pride every step of the way.

While the Cup just slipped away, you should all be extremely proud of what you've achieved. Every challenge makes you stronger, and this is another milestone in your rugby journey.

A big thank you to our coaches, managers, volunteers and families for your continued support. The future is bright for this talented group.
