After 32 incredible years, it’s time for me to close this chapter and take a new direction in life.
To all of our amazing customers, friends, and supporters — thank you. Perth RC Models and Hobbies became what it was because of you. Your loyalty, friendship, and shared passion turned it into far more than just a shop. It became a community, and I will always be grateful for that.
Sadly, after a recent rent increase of $80,000 at our Lord Street address, we had no choice but to leave. We thought moving fully online might work, but I deeply missed the best part of the business — seeing my regulars walk through the door, having a chat, and sharing the hobby together.
Many of you may not realise just how much of my life went into Perth RC. Since I was a little kid, I dreamed of one day owning a toy shop. Before that, I wanted to fix planes. Somehow, with a lot of hard work, passion, and determination, I was lucky enough to live both of those dreams.
Over the years, with your support, Perth RC helped introduce some amazing products to the Australian hobby market. We achieved many firsts along the way — from bringing LiPo batteries to the market 27 years ago, to designing and manufacturing a turbine helicopter in Australia in 2003, to working with some of the best flybarless systems in the world.
Then there was Futaba — what an amazing journey. It has been a privilege to work with such an iconic brand, and that support continues. I’m still working with Futaba Japan at a factory level, and I’ll continue supporting Futaba in Australia through Hobbies Australia and Frontline Hobbies. So if you need Futaba support, please reach out — that part is not ending.
One of the proudest and hardest journeys was bringing Aeroflyte, my childhood model kits, back to the Australian market. That dream took four years of work and over $100,000 of investment, only to be lost in a fire. It absolutely gutted me. But I’m still proud that we brought those iconic kits back, and I thank everyone who shared that dream and supported it.
Perth RC is not completely gone. We are still continuing with Futaba support, Mikado RC Helicopters, ManiaX batteries, and model fuel supply from our Perth address.
But now, for the first time in a very long time, I need to take a break. I need a holiday — and a chance to breathe.
There are so many people I want to thank, but a few deserve special mention.
Thank you to Dianne Morris and her family for supporting me when I moved the business from Cairns to WA, and for standing by me in those early years when I was working around the clock to make it all happen.
To the most amazing Angel anyone could ever meet in ones life - Francisca! You have been my cornerstone and copilot through all of this and for your amazing help with getting it all done! I could not have done it without you and your family!
And to my incredible sister Michelle — thank you. Michelle stepped in around 2009 and has worked tirelessly ever since. Many of you know her well, and thousands of you have received your parcel emails from her over the years. I will always be grateful for her love, loyalty, and support. Michelle is now retiring from Perth RC and moving to Queensland to be near her babies, with her amazing partner Bryan, who she met through Perth RC all those years ago.
I also want to sincerely thank Ross Cox for his contribution to Perth RC over the years, you were always happy to jump in to help at short notice - be it in store, in the background promoting us on facebook or helping us pack up & relocate (a few times!). Your friendship, support, passion for the hobby, and the time and effort you gave along the way have been truly appreciated. People like you helped make Perth RC more than just a business — you helped make it a real community.
To everyone who supported Perth RC Models and Hobbies over the past 32 years — thank you from the bottom of my heart. We have been truly blessed by your support, and I will carry that gratitude with me always.
This may be the end of one chapter, but it’s not goodbye to the hobby or the people in it.
See you at the flying field, or at the race track.
