Our club is one of the most prestigious yacht clubs in Western Australia, boasting a rich history of more than 70 years. Located in the beautiful riverside suburb of Applecross, just 15 minutes from the Perth C*D, the South of Perth Yacht Club provides its members with a stunning waterfront venue, outstanding facilities, and a vibrant social atmosphere. Our members are passionate sailors who compete in a range of regattas throughout the year, both locally and nationally. We cater to all levels of sailing, from beginners to experienced sailors, and offer a comprehensive range of training programs, including junior and adult sailing courses. ⛵ 2026 Seldén Little Wheel Delivers Thrilling Match Racing Return!
The 2026 Seldén Little Wheel Match Racing Regatta concluded over the weekend after two days of intense close-quarters racing, marking a successful return of this historic SoPYC event.

A total of 25 races, including a sail-off and final series, tested competitors' tactical skills, boat handling and teamwork in a highly competitive format. Five teams took to the water, comprising four youth teams and an experienced S80 crew, creating an exciting mix of emerging talent and seasoned match racers.
After a hard-fought series, the experienced team of Ethan Prieto-Low, Vassilis Katsaitis, Marcello Torre and Adam Brenz-Verca emerged victorious, claiming the Little Wheel title. In the final they overcame an impressive SoPYC youth crew consisting of Jamie Randall, Ben Pearson, Finley Symonds, Owen Ready, Elloise Chernoff and Jack Harding, who demonstrated excellent racing throughout the event and pushed the eventual winners all the way.
The regatta showcased the growing depth of young sailing talent in WA, with youth teams competing alongside experienced match racers in a format designed to accelerate learning and development. The close racing, rapid race turnaround and tactical demands of match racing provided valuable experience for all competitors.
The return of the Little Wheel highlighted the important role the event can play within WA and SoPYC's sailor development pathway, creating opportunities for young sailors to gain keelboat racing experience and develop the skills needed for future state, national and international match racing competition.
Congratulations to all sailors, volunteers, race officials and supporters who contributed to a fantastic weekend of racing and the successful revival of one of SoPYC's great match racing traditions.
