πŸ’•πŸ“šDiscounted & free online wellbeing PD for education staff!πŸ“šπŸ’•

When I was a school teacher, I felt an immense pressure from myself & the system to teach my students wellness skills.

But just as we need to upskill in order to teach outside our subject area (as a science teacher, taking year 10 health classes was a big learning curve!), when so many of us don't have a holistic wellbeing support system ourselves, it is a bit daunting to consider how to teach these skills to our kids.

You can't teach what you don't know.

When you put yourself first, & develop your own wellbeing skills, you will easily be able to transfer them to your students using your already expert teaching skills.

I'm putting together a wellness program for teachers, supporting you to support yourself. Not forcing you to meet some item in the business plan, but helping you to upskill for your own benefit.

When you take care of your own wellbeing, you will feel the flow-on effects both within your classroom & outside of school.

The program will be less instructive, and more empowering.

You won't be given information, rather you will take away skills that can transfer to all aspects of your life, both inside & out of the classroom.

You won't be left feeling loaded with yet.more.to.do & instead will have perspective on what really matters to you as a teacher, but primarily a human being, a loving, kind, calm, generous, whole person.

But first, I need to know what MATTERS to you. I want to be able to best serve the community. What do you want to learn so you can feel your best, and lead your kids from a place of wholeness within yourself? With what are you struggling? (My thoughts in comments below)

Please comment below with what skills you'd like to learn; what support you'd like to receive.

I welcome all feedback and suggestions, so I would appreciate if you could think of how I can help YOU & share this question with your networks, especially if they include school staff.

All commenters will receive $10 off at checkout (with the code TEACHWHATIKNOW) when I release the course (probably term 2) and everyone who uses the code goes into the draw to win the entire course free.

I was a school teacher.
I loved my job so much, but it only lasted 3 years before I suffered debilitating burnout.
I took up yoga and meditation to help me recover and heal - I truly believe if I had these skills prior to reaching burnout, I would have been able to continue teaching in the classroom.
I am now a yoga and meditation teacher because I want to help educators stay in the profession longer than I was able.
I know many teachers are apprehensive about going into yet another unprecedented year - I want to help, so I am offering my holistic healing services to school staff.
My classes are gentle and beginner friendly, allowing participants the space to take care of themselves - often neglected in such a caring profession as teaching.
Classes are at the school campus, after class finishes throughout term.
Bonuses include:
- Free classes for student teachers - I want to support the development of wellbeing skills in emerging teachers
- Bring another staff member for free during reporting period - spread the love and help others manage during stressful periods
- Free yoga nidra meditation - to help with switching off the brain for bed
- Free classes for relief teachers - if you happen to be teaching on the same day as a yoga session, you can attend for free
Wellbeing PD are also available for staff development days and team meetings.
If you know any teachers or other school staff, I'd really appreciate it if you could consider me and share my offering with them :)

For many of us, the balance between the two sides of the emotional coin: anxiety and depression, is thin as a knife-edge. The slightest nudge from the winds of life, and the disc flips to the face-forward anxious side, or the tails-backwards depression side, or spins between the two at a rapid rate.

The emotional ties between who we were, who we are, and who we will be are essential to the development of our future values, and the rejection of unhelpful past values.

It is a fraught path through a web of identity within which one has been entangled since birth. The process of disentanglement entails a painful, seemingly unbearable process of extrication and breaking down of oneself in order to reconstruct a new identity.

This ripping apart of the ties that bind our experiences to our emotions can become an identity crisis: the fragmenting of a story we have told ourselves for decades in order to re-write the dark aspects of our history into a tale of redemption, resurrection, and hope.

A life defined by pain, misunderstanding, and shame is over.

We are able to process what we were previously unable to comprehend.

We recognise how we had authorised the inner critic to construct painful stories carried until this moment and we allow our capacity for self-kindness and self-understanding to wash away the ink of these tales with the healing magic of our tears.

With this kind of inner work, the edges of the emotional coin soften into a sphere of gently revolving experience, rolling with the breeze but recognising that there is no preferred side, but one surface with which all emotions are welcome, appreciated, and slide right off.

Forging time-toughened aspects of ourselves requires time, patience, skill, the right tools, a willingness to break for the purpose of reforming, to plunge into the purifying fire, and soften in response to the blows of life's hammers.

Dust off the soot and you'll emerge transformed and reflecting back to them the image of all the other coins around you. xx

Our capacity for Self/self-belief defines our place in the world.

If we are unable to believe in the Self/yourself, we can feel as though we have no place, as though we are drifting without purpose, and limiting confidence in our future. This is a place where the world around us can provide scant comfort - distraction, numbing, fighting.

On the other hand, transitioning towards a healthy belief in the Self/yourself - one when we throw our hands up and just trust (despite having no tangible proof of success), when we stop comparing our paths to others, and when we accept that whatever is along our journey is there to challenge and strengthen our capacity for hope - can initially feel destabilising, ungrounded, terrifying, uncomfortable.

But, paradoxically, this surrender into the unknown is where we build the confidence to believe in our true Self - through feeling the ground crumbling beneath our feet, the wind whipping our hair, our voices soundlessly screaming in our ears, our bodies failing us once again, we give ourselves up to ourselves and our Self.

We allow what will be to happen, to pass, and to settle.

The newborn day after the aging storm is a glistening one of support, understanding, non-judgement, acceptance, compassion, trust, and love. This place is true belief in yourself/the Self. You've been there before; you can do it again. xx

Just because you can, does that mean you will?
Just because you will, does that mean you should?
Just because you should, does that mean you want to?
Just because you want to, does that mean you need to?

After a challenging, introspective, and uplifting weekend at Restorative Yoga & Yoga Nidra training with Chandrika from
Wisdom Yoga Institute, I'm realising more and more to listen to what my body, mind, and soul NEEDS. Instead of mindlessly doing what I think I should, or to please other people, I am learning more tools to assist me as I relax and emerge deeper into the space within me which will heal itself. These nourishing practices not only feel amazingly restful, but more scientific evidence is piling in about their positive effects for all manner of conditions - whether they be physical or mental (and I'm sure in future we have scientific evidence of benefits to the soul!) - and all bodies.

I'm so looking forward to learning more and being able to teach this beautiful, soulful, healthful practice.

Thanks to Chandrika, and Jean from The Yoga Space Perth, Australia and all the other participants :)

How do you commit to an internal expression of love?

I am working on being aware when I need to sit in my own space, and giving myself the gift of recuperation.

I revisit who I am, what I need and how I need to nourish those needs.

Without judgement, I feel into this experience and acknowledge whatever comes up.

I respect where I am on my own journey without expectation as to the direction of movement - there is no process I should follow or place I should be, other than the one in which I am now.

As I remind myself of this, I remember the fractal unfolding of my being into who it has always been - a deepening without being under, a widening without being without, a softening without boundary, a coming back to who I always was, will be, and am.
