I'd like to begin by acknowledging the Traditional Owners of the land on which we meet today, the Whadjak Noongar people, on Whadjak Boodja here in Boorloo.
I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging, and extend that respect to any Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with us today. I acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded.

I'd also like to acknowledge the LGBTQIA+ Elders and pioneers, whose courage, resilience and advocacy created pathways for the generations that followed. At times when living openly came with significant personal risk, they stood up for equality, dignity and the right to be themselves.

Just as we've acknowledged the importance of recognising those who came before us, today is also an opportunity to reflect on the kind of sporting community we want to build, one where everyone feels they belong.
Pride Round isn't about politics, it's about people. It's about making sure that everyone, regardless of their sexuality, gender identity or background, knows they have a place here, on our teams, in our clubrooms and on our sidelines.

Sport has an incredible ability to bring people together, but for many LGBTQIA+ people, that hasn't always been the experience.
By holding Pride Round, we're making a simple commitment: that Ashfield Sports Club is a place where people can be themselves, be respected and be supported.

Once again thank you to everyone that made this day what it was
