League get much needed win as Reserves suffer setback at Hamer Park

The SNESA League team have returned to the winners list after a much needed 20 point win against Mt lawley, keeping them in the hunt for finals.

The saints got off to a sluggish start and the hawks swooped kicking the first three goals of the game and peppering the scoreboard, with six behinds.

The saints with just one goal for the term, young Tai Matthews working his opponent to kick a much needed first goal in senior footy and keep the saints alive.

The second quarter saw the saints bring the pressure. It started in the middle, as the Alaskan Peninsula Brown Bear came out of hibernation. Ben Williams was superb with his first possession and clearance, while Mulcahy’s work rate across the ground was unstoppable.

As the saints began to take control, the benefit went to the likes of Dobbs and Kirk up forward. Dobbs’ presenting finally getting some reward, as Kirk bagged three for the second quarter and six for the game, including a trip the light fantastic turn and burn from 50m that bounced through for goal of the day contention.

Down back, the saints welcomed back some structure, with Jacob White returning giving the saints plenty of confidence.

But the story of the day belonged to the future of the club. With four juniors on League debut and six players in total under 18, the saints future was bright.

Young Crix Johnston showed great confidence and skill with repeat efforts and inside 50s. Whilst Matthews’ attack on the ball combined with Tarj Knight’s pressure and work rate showed glimpses into the years to come. Declan Cleland rucked 80% of the match and never looked out of place. Aliano Sorgiovanni (gonna love saying that name in the future) showed no fear on the wing with his ferocity while young Cam Savy made it two goals in two weeks, with a lovely goal in the final term, as the saints held the hawks at bay, running out 20 point winners.

The Reserves team suffered a setback in the their finals hunt, going down by 12 goals to the second placed hawks earlier in the day. The hawks got the jump on the saints and it was goal for goal for the majority of the game. However the saints ran out of legs and the hawks were too experienced, kicking away to an 80 point win.
