Held in the heart of the Upper Gascoyne, the Junction Races & Gymkhana is one of Western Australia's most unique racing weekends, bringing together red-dirt racing, live music, bush camping and country hospitality in a true celebration of outback life.

The three-day festival features Saturday's iconic Junction Races before the action continues on Sunday with the popular Gymkhana and Barrel Races, along with plenty of family-friendly activities and entertainment throughout the weekend.

On this week's episode of Talkin Country, Alex Vlahos catches up with Junction Race Club President Phil Kearney ahead of the club's annual race meeting. Located 155 kilometres east of Carnarvon and home to just 50 residents, Junction attracts over 1,500 for its biggest event of the year.

We also hear from Goldfields racing legend Noel Jerrard ahead of Sunday's Coolgardie Cup at Kalgoorlie. Joining us from the famous Signpost Racing Museum, Noel reflects on the rich history of the Coolgardie Cup, a race that honours the proud legacy of the Coolgardie Race Club, and shares stories from one of Western Australia's most iconic racing regions.
