🦅💙💛 FRIDAY FOOTY QUIZ — ONLY THE DIEHARDS WILL GET THIS ONE! 🍻😂

Alright, Eagles supporters, let’s test your memory!

CAN YOU NAME 4 WEST COAST EAGLES PLAYERS WHO HAVE WORN THE NUMBER 37 JUMPER? 👀

No Google. No cheating. And no ringing your old man for help! 🤣

BONUS POINT: Who was the first Eagle to wear No. 37?

🦅💙💛 THE BIG ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM — WHEN WILL WEST COAST’S WAFL TEAM FINALLY PLAY FINALS?

The Eagles have announced the additions of experienced defender Jed Bews and exciting youngster Zac Walker to our WAFL side for 2027.

Good additions, and hopefully a step in the right direction.

But I want to raise a bigger issue that I believe hasn’t received nearly enough attention.

HOW CAN WE BUILD A STRONG AFL TEAM WHEN OUR WAFL TEAM ISN’T COMPETITIVE?

Since West Coast established its standalone WAFL side in 2019, we haven’t played finals.

Not once!

And for a club trying to rebuild into a premiership contender, that should concern every Eagles supporter.

HERE’S WHY I BELIEVE THIS MATTERS.

At successful football clubs, nobody should feel comfortable in their position.

If an AFL player has three or four poor games, there should be someone in the reserves demanding that opportunity.

Someone playing outstanding football.

Someone making the selectors think twice.

Someone who makes the senior player realise:

“IF I DON’T PERFORM, SOMEONE ELSE WILL TAKE MY SPOT!”

That’s how you build competition. That’s how you raise standards.

But when your WAFL team is struggling every season, where is that consistent pressure coming from?

Yes, individual players can still perform well in a losing team. But surely we want our young players developing in a competitive, winning environment rather than constantly chasing games.

WINNING SHOULD BECOME A HABIT AT EVERY LEVEL OF THIS FOOTBALL CLUB!

We talk about Harley Reid, Reuben Ginbey, Bo Allan, Willem Duursma and all the exciting young talent coming through.

But what about the next group?

What happens when someone gets injured? When a senior player loses form? When a youngster needs more development?

Our WAFL side should be a place where players are fighting to earn an AFL jumper, not simply somewhere they go when they lose one.

SO WHAT NEEDS TO CHANGE?

We need experienced WAFL players who can lead, compete and help our youngsters develop.

We need stronger recruitment, better depth, a clear development pathway and a genuine commitment to making the WAFL side competitive.

And most importantly, we need accountability across both teams.

I understand the WAFL side faces challenges with player availability, injuries and list restrictions. But those challenges cannot become permanent excuses.

2027 MUST BE ABOUT MORE THAN JUST IMPROVING OUR AFL WIN–LOSS RECORD.

I want to see our WAFL team challenging for finals.

I want to see players knocking the door down for senior selection.

I want to see AFL players genuinely worried about losing their positions when they don’t perform.

Because a strong football club shouldn’t just have 23 players competing on the weekend.

IT SHOULD HAVE AN ENTIRE LIST FIGHTING FOR THOSE 23 SPOTS!

And here’s something else worth considering.

We keep talking about rebuilding the AFL side, but perhaps part of that rebuild needs to start with fixing what’s happening underneath it.

THE STANDARD YOU ACCEPT IN YOUR RESERVES CAN EVENTUALLY BECOME THE STANDARD YOU ACCEPT IN YOUR SENIOR TEAM.

That’s why strengthening our WAFL side isn’t a luxury.

It’s an important part of rebuilding this football club.

EAGLES SUPPORTERS, I WANT YOUR THOUGHTS!

Are we putting enough resources and attention into our WAFL team?

Should making WAFL finals in 2027 be a genuine club target?

And do you believe our struggling WAFL side is one of the reasons there’s not enough pressure on senior AFL players to perform?

LET’S HAVE A PROPER CONVERSATION ABOUT THIS! 🦅💙💛

🦅💙💛 HEATH MELLODY — IS THIS THE NEXT YOUNG STAR HEADING TO WEST COAST?

2026 AFL DRAFT WATCH | WEST COAST FAN TV

West Coast has a massive opportunity in this year’s AFL Draft, and one name Eagles supporters should be paying serious attention to is Heath Mellody.

The 18-year-old Claremont midfielder/defender is one of Western Australia’s most exciting young prospects, and there’s a strong argument for the Eagles to consider him with their first selection.

SO WHAT MAKES THIS KID SPECIAL?

At 184cm, Mellody isn’t simply another youngster putting up impressive numbers. He’s a footballer with composure, intelligence, excellent ball use and the ability to influence games in different positions.

And his achievements in 2026 speak for themselves.

🏅 Larke Medal winner — judged the best player at the AFL National Under-18 Championships.

🏅 Under-18 All-Australian captain — recognised for his outstanding championship performances.

🏅 WAFL senior experience — stepped up to play league football for Claremont, including finals.

WHAT ARE HIS BIGGEST STRENGTHS?

🔥 ELITE BALL USE: His kicking is one of his greatest weapons. He can find targets, distribute the football and help his team move the ball effectively.

🔥 FOOTBALL INTELLIGENCE: He reads the play well, makes smart decisions and rarely looks rushed when he has possession.

🔥 VERSATILITY: He can play across half-back or move into the midfield. That’s valuable for a young rebuilding side.

🔥 COMPOSURE UNDER PRESSURE: He’s shown he can deliver in important moments, including representative football and WAFL finals.

🔥 LEADERSHIP: Being named All-Australian captain at 18 suggests he has qualities beyond simply winning the football.

WHY SHOULD WEST COAST CONSIDER HIM?

We’ve got exciting young talent coming through, including Harley Reid, Reuben Ginbey, Bo Allan and Willem Duursma.

But talent alone doesn’t build a premiership team.

You need footballers who make good decisions, use the ball well and can deliver when the pressure comes.

MELLODY LOOKS LIKE THE TYPE OF PLAYER WHO COULD HELP CONNECT OUR MIDFIELD AND DEFENCE FOR YEARS TO COME.

And he’s a WA boy!

Now, there are still questions.

Can he develop into a genuine AFL midfielder rather than primarily a half-back? Can he build the strength and contested game required at the highest level?

Those are things our recruiters must assess.

But when an 18-year-old wins the Larke Medal, captains the All-Australian side and holds his own against senior WAFL footballers, you have to take notice.

MY VIEW?

If Heath Mellody is available when West Coast makes its first selection, he deserves serious consideration.

Not because he’s West Australian.

BECAUSE HIS FOOTBALL HAS EARNED IT!

🦅 EAGLES SUPPORTERS — WOULD YOU TAKE HEATH MELLODY WITH OUR FIRST PICK?

Or is there another youngster you’d prefer?

LET’S HEAR IT! 💙💛

Former West Coast forward Jack Williams opens up on search for second AFL chance after Eagles delisting

Jake Santa Maria The West Australian

Recently discarded Eagle Jack Williams admits it was ‘tough’ to take the news his West Coast journey was over, but believes he still has plenty to offer as he looks for a second AFL chance.

The 22-year-old forward was perhaps the most surprising victim of a list squeeze at the Eagles, having played 12 games this season and even kicking six goals in three games from rounds 20 to 22 and had been developing his forward-ruck craft under the guise of Nic Naitanui.

In total, Williams amassed 54 senior appearances across his five years with the club, kicking 46 goals.

Despite some pushback from Eagles fans over the move, the young forward said he understood the club’s decision.

“It was a tough period for the club on the field in my time there, but I felt like I gained a lot of resilience and just footy experience,” he told AFL.com.au.

“It was tough news to get … but I feel like I’ve gained a lot from my experience at West Coast.

“While the results weren’t showing for us on field, I feel like the culture of the club is still really strong, and there’s been a lot of focus on development.

However, as revealed by The West Australian, his AFL dream may not be over, confirming he had met with Tasmania since his axing while several Victorian clubs also have him on his radar.

Williams said he was doing everything he could to get on a list as he continues to train with housemates Harry Barnett and Archer Reid ahead of the draft period.

“I’m super keen to get back in the AFL system, and that’s plan A for me, so I’ll just do whatever I can to get another opportunity,” he said.

“Whether that comes within the next couple of days, after the Draft, or if I have to play somewhere else next year, I’m just trying to do whatever I can to get back on another AFL list.

“It’d be great to get down to Tasmania. It’s really exciting what’s coming for them in the next couple of years and to be a part of that would be awesome.

“If things don’t work out immediately, there are so many pathways to go through, so I’m just trying to put my best foot forward and take any opportunity.”

Despite often living on the fringes of a struggling West Coast team, Williams said he had taken plenty of lessons from his time there, believing his best footy is still in front of him.

“I was really lucky to learn off some really talented and great key forwards, like Josh Kennedy and Jack Darling early in my career, and then Oscar Allen and Jake Waterman.

“I feel like I’ve still got more to offer and I’m starting to come into my prime physically. I’ve also taken a lot mentally from those years at West Coast and gained a lot of experience, so I definitely feel like I’ve still got plenty to give.”

🦅💙💛 NO HOLIDAYS FOR THESE EAGLES! GINBEY LEADING FROM THE FRONT! 💪🔥

While the official pre-season is still weeks away, a group of young Eagles have already decided 2027 STARTS NOW!

And leading the charge? REUBEN GINBEY!

According to The West Australian, Ginbey was spotted smashing out a demanding hill-running session at Kings Park alongside Cooper Duff-Tytler, Brady Hough, Bo Allan and several other teammates.

Remember, Ginbey was leading the Eagles’ best-and-fairest count halfway through 2026 before a serious quad injury ended his season.

Now he’s back, looking powerful and determined to make up for lost time!

And here’s another positive: Archer Reid was out there too! After his injury-interrupted season, it’s encouraging to see him back putting in the work.

Milan Murdock, Hamish Davis, Josh Lindsay, Jack Hutchinson and Ryan Maric were also among the group.

THIS IS WHAT I WANT TO SEE FROM OUR YOUNG EAGLES!

No waiting for November. No waiting for the coaches to tell them to get moving.

Getting together. Pushing each other. Setting standards.

We’ve questioned this team’s fitness and standards before, so when we see players taking the initiative, we should acknowledge it!

But let’s not get carried away.

RUNNING HILLS IN OCTOBER IS ONE THING. RUNNING OUT FOUR QUARTERS IN JULY IS ANOTHER!

Four wins in 2026 simply wasn’t good enough. The hard work must eventually translate into performances and victories.

Still, I love seeing this attitude from our youngsters.

EAGLES SUPPORTERS — IS REUBEN GINBEY BECOMING ONE OF THE REAL LEADERS OF OUR NEXT GENERATION?

And which young Eagle are you tipping to have a breakout 2027? 👇

🚨 STEELY GREEN TO WEST COAST? ANOTHER WA BOY WORTH A LOOK! 🦅💙💛

The Eagles have been urged to consider former Richmond small forward Steely Green, and this one deserves a proper conversation!

The 22-year-old West Australian has been delisted by Richmond after four seasons.

But before we dismiss him, let’s look at his 2026 numbers.

20 AFL games. 16 goals. 10.9 disposals and 2.2 tackles per game.

He’s young, has AFL experience and has shown he can apply forward pressure and hit the scoreboard.

And let’s not forget, he comes from WA!

BUT HERE’S THE BIG QUESTION.

If Richmond, another rebuilding club, has decided not to retain him, what makes us believe he could improve West Coast?

Are we getting a hungry young player with something to prove?

Or are we simply recruiting another player who couldn’t secure his future elsewhere?

We’ve been calling for more speed, pressure and goal-scoring options in our forward line.

COULD STEELY GREEN BE PART OF THE ANSWER?

At 22, there’s still time for him to develop. But a list spot must be earned, not handed out.

EAGLES SUPPORTERS — WOULD YOU GIVE STEELY GREEN A SECOND CHANCE AT AFL LEVEL?

IS HE BETTER THAN WHAT WE ALREADY HAVE, OR SHOULD WE USE THAT SPOT ON A YOUNG DRAFTEE? 🦅💙💛

🚨 MATT OWIES GONE! BUT ARE THE EAGLES FINISHED MAKING THE TOUGH CALLS? 🦅💙💛

First, let’s thank Matt Owies for his time at West Coast. He came to our club, wore the blue and gold and contributed where he could. We wish him nothing but the best in whatever comes next.

Now, let’s talk about the bigger picture.

WEST COAST FAN TV HAS BEEN CALLING FOR MORE LIST CHANGES.

We’ve said it before: if we’re serious about rebuilding, we cannot keep holding on to players simply because they’re under contract.

And with Owies now delisted despite having another year remaining on his deal, the Eagles have shown they’re prepared to make an uncomfortable decision.

BUT ARE WE FINISHED? I HOPE NOT!

The way we’re looking at the draft, West Coast now appears to have three senior-list vacancies.

And look at the selections we could be working with:

* Pick 5 — potentially, after draft bids.
* Pick 23 — another opportunity to bring in young talent.
* Compensation selection around Pick 25 — depending on the final draft order.

That’s three potential youngsters coming into the club.

THREE PICKS. THREE SPOTS.

So where does that leave us if another opportunity presents itself?

We’ve got father-son prospects to consider, and there’s also the possibility of Bobby Hill.

Now, I’ll say something that might upset a few supporters.

I WOULD ABSOLUTELY LOOK AT BOBBY HILL!

At his best, he’s a premiership player, a Norm Smith medallist and a genuine match-winner.

Speed. Pressure. Creativity. Goal sense.

If Bobby can get himself physically and mentally ready to return to AFL football, I believe even 60–70% of his best could offer something valuable to our forward line.

But that’s my opinion, not a guarantee. The club would need to do its homework and make sure he’s ready.

SO HERE’S MY QUESTION TO MATT CLARKE AND THE LIST MANAGEMENT TEAM.

Are there more changes coming?

Because three vacancies may not be enough to accommodate every opportunity we’d like to pursue.

Yes, clubs have different list mechanisms, including rookie and Category B pathways, but those places aren’t simply available for any player we choose. The eligibility rules still matter.

And if we want to bring in more players, we may need to make more difficult decisions.

THIS IS WHAT A PROPER REBUILD LOOKS LIKE.

Not every decision will be popular. Not every player moved on will deserve to be criticised.

But the club must be prepared to make room for players who can genuinely improve our future.

We’ve been demanding action.

Now we’re seeing some.

BUT I DON’T THINK THE JOB IS FINISHED!

EAGLES SUPPORTERS — TWO BIG QUESTIONS:

1. Would you take a chance on Bobby Hill if he becomes available?

2. Should West Coast make another two list changes to create more opportunities, or have we already cut enough?

Let’s hear your thoughts. 🦅💙💛

🦅💙💛 THREE YOUNG EAGLES IN THE TOP 10! BUT SOMEONE IS MISSING! 👀

Willem Duursma, Cooper Duff-Tytler and Josh Lindsay have all made the list!

But there’s ONE young Eagle missing who I believe is going to have a BREAKOUT SEASON IN 2027! 🔥

CAN YOU GUESS WHO I’M TALKING ABOUT?

And while you’re at it, which youngster on this list will be the biggest star in five years? 🦅💙💛

2027 AFL teams: Way-too-early look at West Coast Eagles’ best line-up after trade period (Freo part has been removed)

Yes, round one of 2027 is still 21 weeks away... but it’s never too early to take a sneak peek at what your club’s best 23 might look like next season!

Get our early thoughts on the Eagles’ optimal line-up below.

WEST COAST

B: Brandon Starcevich, Harry Edwards, Reuben Ginbey

HB: Tom McCarthy, Rhett Bazzo, Trent Rivers

C: Liam Duggan, Tim Kelly, Bo Allan

HF: Jack Graham, Jobe Shanahan, Elliot Yeo

F: Milan Murdock, Jake Waterman, Cooper Duff-Tytler

R: Bailey Williams, Harley Reid, Willem Duursma

IC: Liam Baker, Jack Viney, Brady Hough, Marcus Herbert, first-round draft pick

Changes from 2026 round 24 side -

IN: Harry Edwards, Reuben Ginbey, Trent Rivers, Liam Duggan, Jack Viney, first-round draft pick

OUT: Tom Cole, Hamish Davis, Tom Gross, Josh Lindsay, Jack Williams, Tylar Young

Health permitting, there’s some encouraging additions here to fuel Eagles fans’ hopes of a significant improvement on a four-win campaign.

Trade period recruits Trent Rivers and Jack Viney make their way in, as do important defenders Reuben Ginbey and Harry Edwards – should the latter be cleared to resume following concussion issues. One would expect West Coast’s high-end draft pick will follow the recent example of Harley Reid, Willem Duursma and Cooper Duff-Tytler and play plenty of senior footy in year one.

One of the big questions the Eagles now face is how much experience they rely on in their first-choice side, and what roles those senior players fill. Do Liam Duggan and Tom Cole – two of the three remaining players from the 2018 flag – earn their spots? Can the likes of Viney, Tim Kelly, Elliot Yeo and Jack Graham all co-exist in the one side and log midfield minutes like they have for most of their careers? There’s also important leadership decisions that factor into that conversation.

Elijah Hewett, Josh Lindsay, Deven Robertson and Archer Reid are all former top-30 draft picks who’ll be looking to press their case, with the latter two coming off significant injury lay-offs entering 2027.
