D Grade v Dianella at home
-
After Tristan sent us out to bowl, it seemed like it was going to be a good day from ball one, with Tim Ko (filling in) and James bowling in a partnership that wouldâve had Starc and Boland applaud. However, it was a slow day out in the middle, as after James got one opener out, the second wicket knuckled down for over 30 overs with about as much intent to score runs as the West Indies against New Zealand. Finally, Shane got the breakthrough, and whilst Dianellaâs number 3 hung around for a little bit more, the remainder of the wickets fell quickly, as Tristan took one and Jordan took three in the last over alone, and will be on an unofficial hattrick first ball this week! Good fielding from the more youthful Goats, especially by Tim and Billy ensured Dianella finished on 157.

Inesh and Niel both agreed before going out that they werenât going to die wondering, and while things got chippy when Niel nicked off, Inesh steadied the ship, before trying to hit his third six in an over and watching his head climb to Mars as the ball crashed into his middle stump.
Unfortunately for our readers, the remainder of the innings is difficult to recount, as both Inesh and Tristan werenât there in person to see quite how things panned out. However, they were assisted by anonymous eyewitnesses, who had this to say about the following questions:
About Danâs batting: âA classy first fifty for the clubâ
About the collapse: âIn the absence of Jamie, the Goats felt a little too British as Baz ball took over and they collapsedâ
-
It got to 10 runs needed for with 12 balls left and 3 wickets in hand - Daniel was bowled for a very good 50 with 8 now needed off 9. Jordan took a tactical attempt on the last ball of the over knowing that Tim would be on strike the next over...leaving us needing 8 off the last over with Shane joining Tim.
-
Their no.3 batsman was given the responsibility of the last over and started bowling spin... which Tim stepped to the off side on the 2nd ball and smashed it through the open fine leg area for 4. The bowler switched to medium pace and promptly bowled a wide... leaving 3 needed off 4. Two dot balls... 3 needed off 2.
-
Time then got what he was looking for - a short ball outside of off that was smashed to the boundary and a win by 1 wicket with a ball to spare.
The goats keep rolling nonetheless, with their first trip away upcoming in six weeks to take them swimmingly into Christmas top of the ladder!

H Grade v Yokine away
-
The H grade boys personified the Christmas spirit early by each wearing a Christmas sticker on their whites in honour of Father Christmas. After complaints earlier in the week about not getting enough opportunities with the bat, Mitch alongside Luke was sent out to open. The H grade boys were certain about being in safe hands after Luke messaged us last night to let us know he was feeling ripe for a century. Despite the confidence, 7 balls in he scooped it up to the bowler only to be dropped, to then do the exact same thing the next delivery and be caught. In marched Dylan and you could see the opposition was trembling with each stride he took. Together with Mitch they steadied the ship before Dylan was caught on 23 which for half the H grade boys would be a top score, but for Dylan 102 runs short of his average. Trevor and Scotty were the two batters to follow and each of them looked likely to tear the game apart before getting caught as well.
-
Mitch was the next to depart after drinks when he missed a full toss, allegedly though, it dipped a mile. The H grade boys looked in trouble as we were well in truly into the tail. Jake departed quickly, and so did fill ins Tom H and Tyler. In a flash we were 7/85 and desperately needed a hero. Fill in Cam and Tom Walsh stepped to the crease so we knew Tom was going to be able to score at least 1.75 runs, but nobody couldâve predicted what happened next. In a scene straight out of the 300 Cam and Tom dug deep and survived an avalanche from the Yokine attack as they combined for a match high 28 run partnership, with Tom finding his way to a 22* and the Goats found their way to a total of 131 which seemed like a strong score on the Yokine pitch.
-
Tom Walsh and Mitch opened the attack as per usual but they didnât seem as effective as the opposition seemed to like the pace. In a move that showcased his cricketing experience, Trev brought Dylan and Jake into the attack and immediately Yokine looked uncomfortable. It was only a matter of time before Dylan found his first showing thereâs nothing he canât do. Jake found an edge in his next over but, despite Trev's wisdom, he dropped the catch in the cordon showing that he can change a game with one decision, but not with two hands. This however didnât faze Jake as he went on to claim two wickets in his next over, with Trev also making up for the drop and collecting a wicket to leave Yokine 4/48.
-
Dylan found the next by dismantling the off-stump and the pressure mustâve been too much for the next batter as he ran himself out for a duck. Despite a 11 ball opening over, consisting of 4 wides, a no ball and a finger wag to the opposition batsman indicating no run there fill in Scott found a wicket with his final delivery. Finally the Harts took care of business as Trevor dismissed the next and Tom H finishing the game for us with just his third delivery.

I think thereâs no better way to sum up today than by using the wise words of Audrey Hepburn when she said âI believe in pink. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles.â Today the H grade boys showcased laughter, stayed strong during the tough times, but most importantly we believed in Tom Walsh which gave him the ability to perform a Christmas miracle. Thank you to fill ins Tom H, Cam, Scott, Tyler and Neil, and well done.

I Grade
CBGRCC won the toss and chose to bat. After a cautious three maiden over start, Anthony Fisher and Jack Wheeler made steady progress until Anthony was bowled on 32 following his 54-run partnership with Jack. Xavier Carr and Jack then put on 134 runs with a lovely selection of 4âs and 6âs, as well as several 3âs before Jack was caught on 73. Xavier partnered with David Woolfe for an additional 2 runs before being run out on 78 aggressively attempting a second run. David departed for 2 and Anthony Crocker was harshly adjudged LBW for a âgoldenâ before Darren Thompson and Matthew Fisher combined to make 6 bringing the total to 5-197 at tea.
-
Western Wolvesâ innings was greatly assisted by several dropped CBGRCC catches. WW didnât lose a wicket until they had put on 92, with fill in, Aries Lahooti-Strand, picking up the wicket with Jack taking the catch. We got prematurely excited when we took two wickets with WW on 97, the first LBW by Thommo, and the second following some quick thinking by Anthony F running in from mid-wicket to remove the bails while the two WW players discussed the exceptional BBQing that was occurring. There was much yelling and gesticulating.
-
Our 4th and final wicket came off Sohaelâs bowling with WW on 168 with Erik C taking the catch. Sohael and Jack made best efforts to keep the run rate down to a dull roar in the last 10 overs. Having earlier been âtaken outâ while fielding a throw over the stumps by a WW player taking a quick single earlier in the match, Matthew F came back on to bowl in the penultimate over and managed to keep them to six with an excellent mix of slower and quicker deliveries. With WW needing 2 to win, David W came back on for the final over but, alas, they made the required runs off the first ball leaving I Grade with 3 games each lost by less than 3 runs this season. Round 9 next sees I Grade making its way inland with 7 of the remaining 9 games to be played away from the cooling breeze of City Beach.
