Hello all and happy 2024! I hope the holiday season was as good for you as it was for me!

This year, there is some important news and changes to the OSK club.

Firstly, all Karate classes at Bertram have recommenced! So if you were a member of the club training last year, or you were thinking of joining last year, now is the time to start! We are keen to teach you guys traditional Karate and practical self-defence techniques!

Secondly, the club has come under new management! I (Hugo Saegusa), 1st Dan Sensei have stepped up to fill the shoes of Kurt Regan Shihan to keep the club going. I will be running the club and training the students, but Kurt Shihan may join classes every now and then to impart his wisdom and knowledge of Karate!

Once again, classes at Bertram have commenced. Days open are Tuesday and Thursday, and times are 4:00pm-4:45pm and 4:45pm-5:30pm. If you or your children are interested in joining, please call or text me at 0413060869.

Thankyou and we look forward to seeing you in the dojo!

Hi all.
This is incredibly difficult!

Many of you may not be aware but on 29th October 2021 I had a spinal injury. Essentially a stroke in my neck. At least it wasn’t in my brain like commonly occurs! I have recovered relatively well but actually still have a long way to go to return to how I was before this. I will not likely recover completely.

My body isn’t handling taking karate classes and I just can’t manage it without Marcin, who’s done his knee in and is out of action for 6-12 months, or also without Kai who’s obviously away in Japan for a year and Hugo who’s off to Japan for 5 months soon.
For me to manage Bertram and Attadale kids (and adults class) myself is just not sustainable with the condition of my body after the stroke. And having to find new premises for Attadale from next term isn’t helpful.

This is gut wrenching but a reality for me unfortunately.

I really appreciate your custom and support over the years.

Special thanks to Marcin who has so often taken the adult classes, Daniel who has helped out there on the occasion when Marcin couldn’t, and Kai & Hugo with the kids classes.

I also acknowledge those who have achieved the prestigious black belt with OSK. I am incredibly proud and grateful for your contributions, along with other dedicated senior ranks.

So unfortunately I have to hang up the belt and focus on the recovery of my health and well-being. It’s been a decision I’ve been battling with after nearly 16 years and the guilt of letting my students down, but at the end of the day I just have to look after myself.

Next week Tuesday 4th April will be the final classes of the term, of the year, of the club.

Hopefully one of our senior members may be able to reignite the club late this year. You will be notified if this occurs.

Thank you for your understanding and I give my sincere apologies for this situation and disappointment.

Osu!!! 🙇‍♂️

Today Kai senpai takes off to Japan to stay for a year, including some time in Okinawa to train with Nakazato kaichou (our grand master). Lucky bu**er! Some of us from the adults class got together for a farewell dinner last night.

We wish you all the best Kai for a wonderful experience of a lifetime in your gap year and thank you for your great efforts teaching the kids at our Attadale dojo. 🙇‍♂️ Good luck!

Sadly this kind of thing occurs way too often. One reason why we train. Our skills may just save ours or a loved one’s life some day.
Train hard. Stay safe! ✊🏼
