🥊 How Tension Slows You Down

Trying too hard can sometimes work against you.

When your body is tense, your movement becomes tighter, slower, and less efficient. Strikes can feel heavier—but not always cleaner or faster.

Too much tension can:
✔️ Slow down your speed and reactions
✔️ Drain your energy quicker
✔️ Affect your timing and rhythm
✔️ Make it harder to stay fluid between techniques

The goal is to stay controlled without being rigid. Relax where you can, stay sharp where you need to.

The more relaxed your movement, the more natural your technique feels. 🥊

A lot of people think more tension means more power — but in Muay Thai, staying relaxed often makes your strikes better.

When you stay loose, your movement becomes faster, smoother, and more efficient. Too much tension can slow you down and burn unnecessary energy.

Focus on:
✔️ Relaxing your shoulders and arms
✔️ Breathing naturally as you strike
✔️ Staying fluid between combinations
✔️ Releasing tension without losing control

The goal isn’t to be soft — it’s to stay relaxed enough to move freely and strike with flow.

Power doesn’t just come from strength — it comes from how you move.

Weight transfer is what helps connect your body through every punch, kick, knee, and step. Done well, it adds power, balance, and control.

When you focus on proper weight transfer, you can:
✔️ Generate stronger, cleaner strikes
✔️ Stay balanced during movement
✔️ Move more efficiently between techniques
✔️ Recover faster and stay ready for the next exchange

It’s not about forcing power — it’s about using your body correctly from the ground up.

Happy 37th Anniversary to Phon’s Muaythai Centre!

I can hardly believe it has been 37 years. Long before social media, Instagram, and Facebook, we were building a strong Muaythai community and promoting the beauty and art of Muaythai throughout Western Australia.

Over the years, I have been proud to teach, train, and help develop fighters, champions, and people from all walks of life. Today, I remain committed to helping others build confidence, discipline, and strong foundations through Muaythai.

Thank you to all our members, students, and supporters who have been part of this journey. It is wonderful to see Muaythai continue to grow around the world.

🥊 Staying Present During Training

It’s easy to get distracted — thinking about work, your day, or what happened in the last round.

But real improvement happens when you’re fully present.

Staying focused during training helps you:
✔️ Absorb coaching and feedback better
✔️ Improve technique with more intention
✔️ React faster and stay aware
✔️ Get more out of every session

Be where your feet are.
One round. One drill. One rep at a time. 🥊

Training hard doesn’t mean going full speed the entire time.

Good training is about knowing when to push, when to pace yourself, and how to stay consistent throughout the session.

Managing your energy helps you:
✔️ Maintain better technique for longer
✔️ Stay mentally focused
✔️ Avoid burning out too early
✔️ Finish your rounds stronger

Remember: not every round needs maximum intensity.
Train with awareness, not just effort. 🥊

It’s easy to focus on landing combinations and forget what your hands are doing in between.

But dropping your hands, flaring your elbows, or losing your guard can leave you exposed.

When throwing combinations, stay aware of:
✔️ Bringing your hands back after every strike
✔️ Keeping your guard active, not static
✔️ Protecting your chin while transitioning
✔️ Staying relaxed but ready to defend

Good combinations aren’t just about offence — they’re about staying protected throughout the exchange.
