Claremont Umpires "Growing our Great Game"
Team of 250+ umpires dedicated to officiating junior AFL games across the Western Suburbs of Perth.

In 1991 the East Perth and Claremont Youth Competitions were combined,
and we became the Central Districts Junior Football Umpires Panel. After
eight years, in 1999, the umpire’s association was formed to be known as
the Central Districts Junior Football Umpires Association Inc. Then in 2004
individual district stand-alone football was reintroduced with Claremont and
East Perth parting ways, and East Perth stating they would start their own
umpire’s association. CDJFUA have continued to serve the Claremont district umpires, coaches
and parents for a total of twenty-one years and over that time nine people
have been inducted as life members. Life Members being Steve Johnson,
Paul Ratajczac, Bob Dyer, Glenis Stanton, John McCallum, Peter Stanton,
Monica Zheng, George Eastwood, Darby Thurtell and Jake Gaspar. In 2021, the association changed its name to Claremont District Junior
Football Umpires Association (CDJFUA). Current Chairperson Jordan
Pearce took over from Peter Stanton in 2021 who held numerous positions
under the Central Districts committee for close to twenty years with former
treasurer John McCallum.

A massive congratulations to Charles Hamilton, who has been named the Metro North Umpire Coach of the Year! 👏

The Umpire Coach of the Year Award recognises those who dedicate their time to developing, mentoring and supporting community umpires. It celebrates coaches who provide meaningful feedback, build confidence, support pathway progression and create an inclusive environment where umpires can continue to learn and improve.

A fantastic recognition of Charles’ contribution to umpiring and the development of umpires across the Claremont District and Metro North.

Congratulations Charles, well deserved! 🐯

🏆 2026 Golden Whistle — Christopher Lapsley
Since beginning umpiring in 2023, Christopher has progressed rapidly through the ranks. This season, he debuted in the Year 11/12 competition, joined the WAFL Senior Squad’s Boundary Talent Pod and earned selection on the WAFLW Finals Panel. His versatility also earned him field umpire Talent Identification and selection for the Development Carnival.
Christopher’s athleticism is equally impressive, winning the Draft Night 1km Time Trial for the second consecutive year with a time of 3:03.
At only 16, his humility, maturity, professionalism and commitment to improving have earned the respect of coaches and fellow umpires. After an exceptional rise, it is fitting that his first individual award at The Den is our highest junior umpiring honour.
Congratulations, Christopher! 💙💛

Jack’s impact extends well beyond the field. As our First Year Modified Field Coach, he has played an important role in developing our newest umpires and will step into the position of Head Modifieds Coach next season.
Jack’s dedication, humility, leadership and genuine care for others embody everything the Stanton-Dyer Award represents.
Congratulations, Jack! 💙💛

🏆 Best Clubman — Dan Weatherhead
After umpiring with The Den from 2011 to 2016 and serving as Head Youth Coach in 2017 and 2018, Dan spent eight years in the Northern Territory before returning to the association this season—not for recognition, but simply to give back.
As a Match Day Coach, Dan has become an invaluable member of our team. Whether he is running warm-ups, assisting with drills or sharing his experience with our umpires, he quietly sees what needs to be done and gets on with it.
Dan’s character, selflessness and commitment to making those around him better embody everything the Best Clubman Award represents.
Congratulations, Dan! 💙💛
