Turning 40 is a milestone. But I reckon the mindset Carolyn is taking into this next decade is worth talking about even more.

Carolyn celebrated her 40th birthday on Friday, but it was Thursday’s training session that really caught my attention.

After a terrible night’s sleep involving swapping beds, ending up on the couch and being woken at the crack of dawn, she’d just about talked herself out of coming.

But she came anyway.

And she certainly didn’t hold back!

Something Carolyn said to me this week really stuck with me.

“My goal is to push myself. I can do it, it’s just getting through the uncomfortable.”

And I think there’s something in that for all of us.

Because Carolyn already knows she’s capable. She’s learning to get comfortable with the part that doesn’t feel particularly comfortable.

The effort. The fatigue. That little voice telling you you’ve done enough, when you’ve actually got a bit more to give.

She’s also learning that even after a terrible night, getting herself to training can be the very thing that makes her feel better.

And I love watching that shift happen.

Not just getting physically stronger, but building that trust in yourself. Learning the difference between when you genuinely need rest and when you can give yourself a little push.

Forty looks pretty good on you, Carolyn!

And imagine heading into this next decade knowing that being uncomfortable doesn’t have to mean you’re incapable.

Sometimes it’s exactly where you discover what you’re made of. 💜

Congratulations Anita on being recognised as our very well-deserved COTM winner! 🏆

Meet Anita, one of our beautiful MOAM ladies who is living proof that your 50s can be a time of discovering just how much you’re capable of!

From barely being able to run 300 metres to conquering 12km, taking on HYROX and working through injuries along the way, Anita has continued to challenge herself, build confidence and achieve things she once thought were out of reach.

But what makes Anita’s journey so special isn’t just the physical milestones. It’s the friendships she’s made, the support she’s embraced and the way she’s become such a valued part of our community.

Her story captures so much of what MOAM is about, women backing women, celebrating the wins and standing beside each other through the tougher moments. 💜

Grab your cuppa and keep reading, Anita’s story is a beautiful one! 👇🏾

Mums on a Mission (MOAM) – So Much More Than a Gym!

MOAM has been life-changing for me! Having been a member of many gyms over the years, I’ve never experienced such a friendly,
supportive and genuinely caring community.

It’s not just about working out; it’s about people who celebrate each other’s achievements, lift each other up through life’s challenges and stand together when someone is in need. The emotional support and genuine friendships are just as valuable as the physical benefits.

With the encouragement of our wonderful trainers, Bec, Vikki and Brenda, I’ve achieved things I never thought possible, especially in my 50s! I went from struggling to run 300 metres to completing a 12 km run, with the help of a lovely member who welcomed me on her training runs. HYROX was another milestone I never imagined achieving!

What I love is MOAM’s holistic approach to health and fitness. We train outdoors, rain or shine, with a focus on mobility, strength, nutrition and staying healthy as we age.

Having struggled with shoulder and hip bursitis, I’ve always been given alternative exercises to accommodate my limitations, help with my rehabilitation and build my strength until I could eventually return to the regular workouts.

The trainers understand that everyone is different and adapt exercises to suit individual needs.

MOAM has helped me realise that it’s never too late to challenge yourself and achieve things you never imagined. The fitness is fantastic, but it’s the incredible trainers, encouragement and community spirit that make MOAM truly special.

It’s so much more than a workout — it’s a community that supports you physically, mentally and emotionally, and lifts you up in every sense of the word! 💜

Sometimes the win is simply deciding you’re going to make it happen.

Jacqui has found it hard to find her groove over the last few months.

Single mum. Shift Nurse. A million things to juggle and only so many hours in the day.

And when you’re the one everyone relies on, finding time for yourself can be one of the first things to go.

But recently, Jacqui made a decision. Two sessions a week. Locked in.

And as simple as that might sound, we know it isn’t.

It takes planning. Organisation. Sacrifices. Moving things around. And sometimes getting yourself to training when it’s genuinely the last thing you feel like doing.

There will always be a reason not to. Some days, those reasons are completely valid.

But Jacqui has decided that two sessions a week are something she’s going to work around, rather than keep putting off.

And that’s the part worth celebrating.

Not perfection. Not suddenly having life all figured out.

Just making a commitment to herself and finding a way to follow through, even when life is full.

Because you don’t need to have everything under control to start showing up for yourself.

You just need to decide that you matter in the middle of it all, too. 💜

You can tell a lot about a place by what happens when one woman starts believing she can do more.

At MOAM, it rarely stops with her.

Our members have this incredible way of lifting each other without even trying.

They encourage. They challenge. They notice the small wins. They celebrate the big ones. They give you that extra push when you’re ready to stop, and sometimes they believe in you before you do.

And it doesn’t stop when the session finishes.

It spills into the messages, the coffees, the runs, the races, the big life stuff, the hard days, the “I nearly didn’t come today” days.

And then you start noticing something else.

These women level up.

Not because we suddenly found a secret training method.

Because when you’re surrounded by women who are showing up, giving it a go and believing you can do more, your own ceiling starts to move.

You lift a little heavier.

Run a little further.

Try the thing you would’ve previously talked yourself out of.

And eventually you look around and realise the woman you were a year ago isn’t quite the woman standing there now.

That’s the part of MOAM I’m most proud of.

Not just what happens during the workout.

What happens to women because of the women around them. 💜

He ran 27kms before calling me to pick him up.

I warned him not to do it but I’m secretly so proud he believed in himself enough to give it a go.

I also know he’s seen me pick myself up from failure enough times that today’s experience will just add another layer of resilience to his character 👏🏼

Two sessions in and Monique is already noticing a difference.

Eight months postpartum, Monique has come from a dancing background, so walking into MOAM has meant stepping into a completely different style of training.

And yep, she felt it. 😂

The DOMS was real, but instead of thinking “maybe this isn’t for me,” she kept going, with our trainers guiding and supporting her through the sessions.

Then something she probably didn’t expect this early.

She’s feeling more energised and less brain foggy.

And I think we sometimes underestimate that side of exercise.

We think we’re turning up to get fitter, stronger, change our body, tick the workout off.

But what if one of the biggest things you get back isn’t something you can see at all?

More energy. A clearer head. Feeling a little more like yourself.

Two sessions in.

That’s a pretty good start.

Imagine what you could get back from yourself over the next 6 or 12 months if you kept showing up.

What’s something you want to get from training that has nothing to do with how your body looks?

Let us know in the comments.

Sometimes you don’t realise how far you’ve come until you look back.

Just over two years ago, Kristy & Sheloe took on their first ever trail run at Yaberoo.

Then three months later came a leg of MRU.

This year, they went back to Yaberoo and increased their distance.

Then they took on MRU again, but this time, it was two legs.

And this Saturday, they ran their first ever half marathon.

None of those things happened overnight.

It was one challenge, then another.
A little more distance.
A little more confidence.

A decision to give something a go before they necessarily knew they could do it.

And that’s the bit I love.

Because sometimes the biggest change isn’t the distance you’re running.

It’s what you start believing you’re capable of.

Two years ago, 21km wasn’t something they’d done.

This weekend, it was something they did.

Imagine what can change when you just keep saying yes to the next challenge. 💜
