A pregnant back usually feels better with gentle movement than with rest. 🌿
As the bump grows, posture shifts and the lower back quietly takes the load. Three small habits our prenatal students find most useful:
Move little and often. Two easy minutes of cat-cow on hands and knees, morning and evening, moving only within comfort — consistency beats intensity.
Support your sleep. Rest on your side with a pillow between the knees and, later in pregnancy, one under the bump. Small props, big difference.
Lengthen the exhale. In for four, out for six. A longer exhale gently settles the nervous system — useful for backs, and for 3am minds.
Every pregnancy is different, so please check with your GP or midwife first, and let comfort be your guide. Which of these three would help you most right now?

Mid-winter is a natural pause — a good moment to ask how you’re really travelling. If stress, poor sleep or persistent tension has been part of your season, a free 15-minute Discovery Call is a gentle first step: a relaxed conversation about what’s going on and whether yoga therapy might help. No mat, no commitment, no pressure. We work with a small number of clients at a time, so every practice we build is truly personal. Private health rebates may be available for yoga therapy — check with your fund.

Our studio holds eight mats. Not because we couldn’t fit more — because we don’t want to. With eight people, we notice the shoulder that’s guarding, the breath that’s gone shallow, the student who needs a quieter option today. That’s the kind of yoga we believe in: unhurried, personal, faithful to the tradition it comes from. We teach every class ourselves, and every student is known by name. If you’ve been looking for a smaller, gentler way into yoga this winter, our door in Darch is open.

Struggling to sleep this winter? Perth yoga therapists share gentle, evidence-informed practices for deeper rest — and explain how personalised yoga therapy may help.

Winter nights are made for sleep — so why are so many of us lying awake? One evidence-informed habit worth trying: the 10-minute wind-down. About an hour before bed, dim the lights, rest your legs up the wall for five minutes (a folded blanket under the hips makes it easier), then spend five minutes breathing slowly, letting each exhale grow a little longer than the inhale. A longer exhale gently signals the nervous system to shift towards rest — which may make it easier to drift off and stay asleep. Small, quiet, repeatable — that’s what works. What does your wind-down look like at the moment?

People sometimes ask why our first session is mostly listening. The truth is, we can’t personalise a practice we don’t understand. Before any movement, we want to know your story — how you sleep, where you hold tension, what a good day feels like for you. As authentic practitioners, we care as much about the integrity of this tradition as we do about results. Yoga therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all wellness; it’s a practice shaped around you. That’s the work we love.

Desk-bound this winter? Try the “reset minute.” Once an hour, stand, soften your shoulders away from your ears, and take five slow breaths — making each exhale a little longer than the inhale. Lengthening the exhale gently nudges the nervous system towards “rest and digest,” which can ease tension and help you refocus. It’s small, but done often, it adds up. This is the kind of simple, sustainable practice we build into our yoga therapy — shaped around your real day, not an ideal one.

Winter is a quiet, inward season — a good time to start something gentle for yourself. If stress, sleep or lingering tension has been weighing on you, our free Discovery Call is a relaxed, no-pressure chat to see whether yoga therapy is the right fit. No commitment, just a conversation. We work with adults across Darch, Landsdale, Madeley and the wider northern suburbs, in person and online. When you’re ready, we’re here.

When someone comes to our Darch studio with pain they’ve carried for years, the first thing we do isn’t a pose. It’s listen. 🙏
So much of living with persistent pain is feeling unheard — rushed appointments, being told it’s “just stress”, or that nothing more can be done. We believe yoga therapy works best when it starts with your whole story: how you sleep, how you breathe, what you’ve already tried, and what matters to you.
We’re not here to replace your doctor or physio. We work alongside them, offering time, attention and a practice shaped around you. That’s the heart of how we teach — authentic, unhurried, and grounded in the yoga tradition.

A small truth about persistent pain that surprises many people: hurt does not always mean harm. 🌿
Modern pain research shows that with long-term back or neck pain, the nervous system can become more protective over time — so gentle, regular movement often helps more than rest and bracing. This is why yoga therapy leans on slow, graded movement and calm breathing rather than pushing into pain.
A simple place to start: two minutes of slow, easy spinal movement each morning — think gentle cat-cow on your hands and knees, moving only as far as feels comfortable. Consistency matters more than intensity.
Always check with your GP or physio first, and let comfort be your guide.
