GRAND FINAL REPORT

Well the result wasnt exactly what we wanted but we were beaten by the better side on the day and last year and this year we have beaten them in the round robin of fixtures but they got the better of us last year in the Semi-Final and also beat us yesterday in the Grand Final.

We lost the toss and were sent into bat and got off to a disastrous start when their was a mix up between Jamie Lee and Shane MItchell and Shane was run out with the score on 1.

Nic Cullinane and then Jamie started to steady the ship before Jamie held out on the boundary line for 20 and Nic went soon after.

Nic and David Newham were both then stumped being aggressive and Ben Warren made a quick fire 51 off 36 balls but wickets fell quickly and Todd and Jason came together with a few overs to go and lifted the score to 137 which we knew would not be enough on that ground with that batting line up.

And they came out and smashed us all over the park and hit some monumental sixes . We had them 1-30 in the 3rd over but that was the last of the joy.

Some of the sixes hit by Czosnek were massive with three of them going onto the roof of the pavilion. He hit a great knock and finished unbeaten on 71 off only 26 balls and Chris Stone anchored the innings and finished on 45 off 36.

Each year we have improved and gone one better and here is hoping w can continue that improvement and go one better next year.

Its been an amazing week with a bunch of great blokes and these Gropers are Gropers for life and lifelong mates.

It will be sad to not have Craig Calliess running around with us next year after announcing his retirement ffrom cricket yesterday as he has been a great contributor to the history of the Gropers.

We wish you all the best Sauce and we look forward to catching up with you next year for a b**r and at least you wont have to get back on the Bradley Mant table any time soon :)

SEMI FINAL v EV2

EV2 won the toss and elected to bat.

Their openers got off to a flyer and out on a quick fire 40 before losing their first wicket at 40 in the 5th over. Their opening bat Bellchambers was smacking them everywhere and was dropped a number of times before being out for 67 with the score at 113 in the 13th over and they looked like making a massive total.

Then Johnny Budalich entered the fray and bowled superbly and tore apart their middle order and took 3-18 off his four overs to arrest their onslaught. They then limped home and finished at 9-167 which was a great result considering their start. Also Shane Mitchell took1-3 from his 1 over.

Jamie Lee was for the first time the first one out but the score was already 37 in the 4th over and then unfortunately Shane Mitchell was next out for 11 with the score on 42.

David Newham and then Nic Cullinane took the score to 84 and then both Nic and David were out in quick succession but were going at a run a ball. Broomhall made a quick 13 off 9 balls before getting out and then Ben Warren and Luke Jessop were t the crease and in the last two overs we needed 31 and the Jessop and Warren show kicked in and they brought us home and we are .
