*Meet Chloe: The Newest Addition to Our Gym Family*

You might remember Harley, our beloved furry friend who was an integral part of our gym family for many years. He brought joy, comfort, and motivation to our clients, and his presence will always be remembered.

After saying goodbye to Harley, we weren't sure if we'd find another four-legged friend to fill his paw prints. But, fate had other plans! Meet Chloe, our new furry friend who has settled into her role as "PR Guru" and "Client Retention Officer" with ease.

Chloe's natural charm and affectionate nature have won over the hearts of our clients, and she's taken to her new role like a pro. She greets clients with a wagging tail, provides comfort and companionship during workouts, and even gives each client a royal send-off at the end of their session.

What's remarkable about Chloe is how she's seamlessly integrated into our gym culture. She's learned her boundaries and has become an official part of the team. You can find her sitting on my bed in the mornings, waiting for clients to arrive, and running out to greet them with excitement.

Chloe's presence has brought a new level of joy and comfort to our gym, and we're so grateful to have her as part of our family. We're lucky to have her in our lives, and we're excited to see her continue to thrive in her role.

As we age, our bodies undergo natural changes that affect our physical abilities. One crucial aspect that's often overlooked is power and deceleration training. But why is it so important, especially for over 50s?

‼️What's power training?‼️
Power training involves rapid, high-intensity movements that help improve our ability to generate force quickly. Think explosive jumps, quick changes of direction, or rapid weightlifting.

‼️Why is it important for over 50s?‼️
As we age, our muscle mass, bone density, and nervous system efficiency decline. This affects our ability to perform daily tasks, maintain balance, and respond to unexpected situations. Power training helps:

➡️Maintain muscle mass and bone density
➡️Improve balance and coordination
➡️Enhance functional ability (e.g., getting up from a chair, climbing stairs)
➡️Reduce the risk of falls and injuries

‼️Deceleration training: the other side of the coin‼️

Deceleration training is just as important as power training. It involves controlled, rapid slowing down of movements, which helps:

➡️Improve joint health and reduce wear and tear
➡️Enhance reaction time and responsiveness
➡️Reduce the risk of injuries (e.g., ligament sprains)

‼️The science behind it‼️

Research shows that power training can improve muscle power, functional ability, and overall health in older adults (Fiatarone et al., 1990; Bean et al., 2010). Deceleration training, on the other hand, can reduce the risk of falls and injuries by improving reaction time and joint health (Hewett et al., 2006).

‼️The Hidden Causes of Knee Pain: Why Your Knees Might Be Suffering‼️

Are you tired of living with knee pain? Do you struggle to enjoy the activities you love because of aching knees? You're not alone.

Knee injuries and pain are common complaints that can be caused by a variety of factors. But what if the problem isn't actually in your knees?

‼️Common Causes of Knee Pain‼️

1. *Overuse*: Repetitive strain on the knee joint can lead to inflammation and pain.

2. *Poor biomechanics*: Abnormal movement patterns, such as overpronation or supination, can put unnecessary stress on the knee joint.

3. *Muscle imbalances*: Weak or tight muscles in the legs, hips, or core can affect knee movement and lead to pain.
4. *Trauma*: Direct blows to the knee or sudden twisting movements can cause injuries.

‼️The Upstream-Downstream Connection‼️

Issues can arise from problems above and below the knees such as problems in the hips, ankles, or even the lower back can radiate towards the knees. For example:

➡️Tight hip flexors can pull on the knee joint, leading to pain and stiffness.

➡️Weak ankles can cause overcompensation in the knee, leading to instability and pain.

➡️Lower back issues can affect the entire kinetic chain, including the knees.

‼️The Mobility-Stability Paradigm‼️

Each joint in the body has a specific role to play in movement and stability. When this balance is disrupted, pain and injury can occur. Here's a rough guide to the mobility-stability paradigm:

- Ankles ➡️mobile
- Knees: ➡️stable
- Hips: ➡️mobile
- Lumbar spine: ➡️stable
- Thoracic spine: ➡️mobile
- Cervical spine: ➡️stable

When this balance is disrupted, and joints become overly mobile or stiff, it can lead to pain and injury. For example, if the ankles are stiff, the knees may compensate by becoming overly mobile, leading to pain and instability.

Do you ride a motorbike and often experience pain from riding? ❓❓

Motorbike riders often adopt a position that puts strain on their bodies, particularly the lower back, shoulders, and hips.

When you lean forward on the bike, your head tends to jut forward, leading to forward head posture. This can put strain on the neck and shoulders. Your shoulders also roll forward, which can lead to rounded shoulders and further exacerbate the strain on your upper body.

The lower back is affected too, as the natural curvature of the spine can be lost when you're leaning forward on the bike. This can lead to discomfort and pain in the lower back. Tightness in the hip flexors and hamstrings can also develop from the riding position. When you're sitting on the bike, your hips are flexed, which can cause your hip flexors to become tight and your hamstrings to become less flexible.

By understanding these postural issues, riders can take steps to mitigate them and reduce their risk of discomfort and injury.

⚠️The Accident That Changed Everything…. How my interest in rehab came about………..

As a motorcyclist, I had a serious accident in 2011 that left me with a broken tibia, fibula, and clavicle. After surgery and six weeks on crutches, I was frustrated with the lack of guidance on rehabilitation from my medical team. Despite being a trainer, I felt like my motivation was being held back. I took matters into my own hands, researching and doing my own rehab. I made rapid progress, opening my own studio in September 2011 and regaining my strength. By November, I was doing Turkish get-ups with a 20-kilo kettlebell. This experience sparked my interest in fascia and movement restoration. I pursued further education, becoming a movement restoration and rehab coach. Now, I help others on their own journeys to recovery and optimal movement. I view the human body as a jigsaw puzzle, working to identify and address the root causes of pain and limited mobility. It's incredibly rewarding to see people progress and achieve their goals.

Welcome to Hell’s Bells Fitness!

Hi! I’m Jen, owner & personal trainer at Hell’s Bells Fitness, with over 30 years experience in the Fitness Industry. I pride myself on helping anyone and everyone achieve greatness.

At Hell’s Bells Fitness, we do things a little differently around here. Our fitness style caters to both men and women who want to get fit and have a supportive social interaction while doing so. Not only are our workouts individually tailored, from beginners to advanced, but we specialize in Kettlebell & TRX workouts. I believe in teaching a system that works and is customisable for everyone.

I have always aimed to offer packages that are flexible to every type of schedule, and also affordable. So, instead of the traditional group classes that you find at other centers, recently I have restructured my old packages into a condensed form of 3 primary ‘shared’ packages for you to choose from. Furthermore, Hell’s Bells Fitness hosts 4 week and 12 week transformation & training challenges.
