We lost a radiant, oh so stylish, and invincible star this week 😩💔
Absa Mbaye, I met you when you were just a young girl; you introduced me to the absolute joy of sabar, back in 2010. Even as a cheeky teenager, you inspired and taught me and made me laugh. You saw the true colors of my soul—not the tone of my skin—and you accepted and welcomed me.
At 17, you possessed more wisdom, empathy, and courage than most adults.
Your journey after that was breathtaking. You followed (and shared) your passion, your energy, your talent, your heart, your art, and your smile. You always radiated sunshine, and you dared to be true to yourself.
In Finland, you forged your own path and blossomed, becoming an even more of a powerhouse stunning dancer, a talented choreographer, and a collaborator with a heart of gold and wings on your feet 👣! 😍🤩
You know who you are; you are the example I give my daughter when I tell her that nothing can hold her back—that she should live life on her own terms, no matter what others say. I love you dearly, my heart sister 💓
You once explained to me that when someone passes away in Senegal, while the pain of grief naturally washes over us, we also honor that person’s life and passions...
So, I am sharing these photos to pay tribute to you. May you depart this earth lightly. Instead of resting in peace, I hope you don't rest at all—but rather keep dancing, leaping, and soaring to the sound of the sabar drums and the rhythm of your own heart, wherever you may be, surrounded by those who respect and love you. May those who adore you here on earth keep you in their hearts, their dances, and their tears… See you soon, Inshallah—you will never be forgotten.
Your Roanna 🙏💜😭 💃 🪘 🔥 🕯️
