🎣 BOAT CAPTAIN’S REPORT – OCTOBER COMP 🎣
Well, first comp of the season and my first one at the helm as Boat Captain — and apparently we couldn’t even get through round one without a stewards’ inquiry! 😂
It certainly wasn’t an easy day in the office. The weather was average and the feedback from pretty much everyone who fished was the same — you had to work hard for your fish.
The herring were apparently doing their best impression of whitebait, there were a few questionable-but-legal flathead doing the rounds, and plenty of sambos keeping a few arms stretched. Despite the tough fishing, there were still some very respectable bags brought back by plenty of determined fishos.
We had 33 anglers signed on, 15 boats out and 25 anglers weighing in, which is a great turnout to kick off the season.
🏆 October Winners
Mini Juniors
🥇 Toby Weymouth – 138.0 pts
🥈 Harvey Thomson – 33.5 pts
Juniors
🥇 Jade Gauci – 98.2 pts
Veterans
🥇 Terry Bell – 124.5 pts
🥈 Allan Williams – 89.1 pts
🥉 Francis McKeown – 88.7 pts
Ladies
🥇 Belinda Mallon – 105.0 pts
🥈 Sally Gauci – 98.4 pts
Men
🥇 Tony O’Sullivan – 131.3 pts
🥈 Glen Weymouth – 122.5 pts
🥉 Rob Walters – 107.7 pts
Now for the first bit of controversy of the new season… 😂
During the final check of the results, it was picked up that a Sergeant Baker heaviest belonging to Belinda had been scored incorrectly. Once corrected, it was enough to change the result of the Ladies division.
Credit to Terry for going back through the sheets and picking it up before everything was put to bed — although he did admit he may have had a little something to do with the original mix-up! 😂
So after our first stewards’ inquiry of the season, Belinda Mallon takes the win, with Sally Gauci finishing second. A bit of early-season drama to keep everyone on their toes!
There were also some quality fish brought in. Scott Gauci landed the one cracking flathead of the day at 1.184 kg, while Tony O’Sullivan found the sambos, taking heaviest Samsonfish with a cracking 15.8 kg fish. Tony also picked up heaviest tuna at 3.024 kg and heaviest trevally at 0.954 kg.
Glen and Toby Weymouth combined for an impressive 18 species to take out the Interboat award as well.
A big shout-out to our juniors and mini juniors too. It was a tough day even for the experienced crews, so seeing Toby, Harvey and Jade getting amongst it was fantastic. Toby put together 9 species and 138 points in the Mini Juniors, which is a cracking effort. 👏🎣
Keep getting the kids out there and involved — they’re the future of the section and it’s great to see them having a crack.
Thanks to everyone who fished, helped with the weigh-in, donated prizes and made my first comp as Boat Captain an enjoyable one.
A quick heads-up — I’ll be overseas for the next comp, so I’ll be handing the reins over for that one. I know the team will step up and keep everything running smoothly, so make sure you give them the same support.
🍻 And don’t forget the Angling End of Season Event on Saturday 31 October!
It’s always a great night to wrap things up, hand out a few awards and have a few laughs away from the water. Adults are $28 and the kids are free, so get your tickets sorted before sales close.
Angling End of Season Event – tickets & details
Average weather, tough fishing, tiny herring, a few flathead that just scraped through the legal department, plenty of sambos and a result that needed a recount — not a bad way to start the season! 😂🎣🍻
Congratulations to all the winners and placegetters.
Bring on the next one!

Morning all! 🎣

With the first beach comp of the season fast approaching (this weekend, 17–18 October), I thought I’d touch base quickly with a few updates before we get stuck into it.

A few rule changes for this season

Firstly, there have been a couple of changes to the measuring/weight points for both wobbegongs and shovelnose sharks. Most of these changes happen behind the scenes, so just keep measuring your fish on your brag mat with the code word as per usual.

Secondly, we’ll now also receive points for oversized sharks that are caught and released.

Lastly, tiger sharks are now an eligible species to be weighed. However, I’d still strongly encourage catch and release for this species.

Species sponsors

We’ve also had two new species sponsors come on board this season!

A big welcome and thank you to:

• Max Taylor from Allstruct Outdoors – Heaviest Salmon
• Chris Matthews from Suncoast Skutes – Longest Shovelnose

Thanks to both of you for your support, along with the 22 other sponsors who have continued to get behind the club.

That brings us to an awesome 24 individual species sponsors for the season! A massive effort and something we should all be proud of. 👏

This weekend’s competition

Alright, onto this weekend!

Dare I say it, but the weather isn’t looking too bad at this stage. 🤞 Hopefully, we can all find a few nice fish to kick off the season.

A few reminders:
🎣 Boundaries: No boundaries, as usual.

⏰ Start: 5:00 am Saturday.

⚖️ Weigh-in: 4:00 pm sharp Sunday afternoon at the club.

Please make sure you’re there on time, as no late bags will be accepted.

If anyone has any questions, don’t hesitate to get in touch with me.

Good luck to everyone, and most importantly, stay safe out there! 🤙

Month: September 2026
Section: Beach Fishing
The final comp for the season and, you guessed it……terrible weather! What a fitting way to end the 2025/26 season, with all but one event being held in less-than-favourable conditions.
In the end, we had 12 competitors fish the final event for the year, which is a little low. But with the bad forecast, and really every category already stitched up for the end of the season, I’m not overly surprised.
Most fished their usual haunts, while Kiwi, Bron, Crew and myself took a punt on the conditions being better further north and headed up to the Port Gregory area.
Unfortunately, Kiwi and Bron didn’t find that big silver ghost they were chasing. Bron did, however, have a lovely Tailor of 2.267kg, and they both caught Wobbegongs.
Crew and I were forced into fishing a spot I wasn’t super keen on fishing, but fortunately it proved to be the right choice, as we had non-stop bites all afternoon and into the night. While they weren’t amazing-quality fish (mostly Catfish), they were plentiful enough and big enough to help us both win our respective categories.
Another thing to touch on was that James Neal had a nice little bag of Swan River fish, and most notable from this was a healthy Flathead of 530g. James tells me this was one of many caught.
Why is this so notable? Well, it’s very early in the season for decent Flathead to be caught in the Swan, so here’s hoping we will have a standout river season this year.
Flathead are great fun to target over the summer months. They provide the perfect target to get kids into lure fishing, and it’s really good fun wading the flats on a hot summer’s morning.
If anyone has any questions surrounding this style of fishing, don’t hesitate to have a chat with me and I’ll hopefully be able to point you in the right direction.
Anyways, onto the individual winners.
Unfortunately, as with lots of comps during this season, Crew Bell was the only mini junior who weighed in. He did, however, work hard over the weekend and had an impressive bag of 8 species and just over 4kg of total bag weight. For reference, his bag would have easily put him second overall for the weekend.
No juniors weighed in, so I’ll move straight into the Ladies, where it was very close score-wise, with only 11 points separating them.
Carolyn Benniman was in 3rd position. Helen Brownfield put in her usual effort over the weekend and managed 2nd place, but it was Bronny, with a couple of bigger fish, who just scraped over the line and took the win.
The Vets was almost as tight. Bruce Bennett took out 3rd place with 4 species, just behind Clive with 5 species, and Colesy ‘the Herring Guru’, who also had 5 species but one more heaviest fish, which edged him over the line.
Lastly, the Men’s, which was not so hotly contested. In fact, we only had a total of 4 men weigh in.
3rd place went to Kiwi with his 1-species bag, a Wobbegong, which was the heaviest for the comp, I should add. 2nd was little Joe with his 3-species bag. And in first place was myself (Daniel Bell), proving sometimes doing the miles does get the smiles, as my 9-species bag with just over 8kg of bag weight was well and truly enough for the win.
Well, that about wraps up this report and the season, so I’d like to quickly take the opportunity to once again thank everybody who has helped me run the events over this last season. Without the help, my life running the comps would be extremely difficult, so I really do appreciate it.
Also, to those who sponsored the individual species prizes - this adds a great flair to our comps, and I once again appreciate your ongoing support.
Fingers crossed the weather will be more favourable next season, and hopefully we will also see the continued growth in our members catching prized fish.
Our first comp for the season is on October 17/18.
I hope to see you all there!
Cheers

Gday all
We have our last Boat comp this Saturday.
Looks like the decent weather run is finally over! That low pressure system coming through Friday is going to bring some heavy winds into Saturday along with some swell. At this stage I cannot see us fishing on the day but will clarify with BOM’s forecast tomorrow afternoon. The carry over day, Sunday, the forecast is more favourable - just!
I will touch base tomorrow afternoon and we can come up with a plan moving forward.
I will post up on the clubs fishing messenger page.
If you would like to get on board with boat or beach fishing within the club please reach out.

Quick one and though it’s already been posted prior.
We’ll done to the Thomo grommets killing it at the PGFC Tuna comp earlier in the month 🤙🤙

August Boat Comp Report.
The August Boat comp held at the end of July 🤣 So glad next season we have changed back our calendar to align with one boat competition every month again.
Man it feels like ages since we have had a comp!
Once again , thanking our beloved weather god, we had a very decent forecast to fish.Although the old almanac did not align, it did not stop 29 boaties getting out on the water to get the rods bent. This one was our second last comp for the season and with a couple of categories coming down to the wire there would be some good bags weighed in.
We all know the Tuna have been on fire recently with bait balls starting just inside the 3 mile and pushing rite out to the temp break in 42m. Plenty of Blue Fin coming over the scales and it was Jacob Bristows beast of 6.33kg that took the honors for the day. Still plenty of King George around and plenty weighed in.. Chuckie had another hoarse of KG, not hitting the 1kilo mark this time but still a decent snake at 736 grams. One of our regular species the humble sand whiting has been a bit hit and miss this season for some including myself. The Gauci's had no issues finding them and Sal took out the biggest for this comp. One specie we do not see many caught during a local comp is the very good looking Snook. And a similar good looking fella caught one-Andy Cas. Andy managed to get into a tussle with a Snook that pulled the scales down at 1.646kg. Plenty of Sambo's being caught on the day with Aiden Marshalls 8.9kg giving him some curry and earning the biggest on the day.
Quick mention, this was the first time that Scotty and Sal took out the inter boat! Well done you two- Sal would have had sore shoulders after that feat I am sure 😜
Onto our weigh in and we had two Mini Juniors out amongst it. Taylor Gauci on pops boat coming in second with 3 species, 2 heaviest, 0.661kg and 43.3 points. In first and having a belter season was Harvey Thomson. Harvey had 6 species, 5 heaviest, 6.009kg and 102 points. Great work.
Into our Juniors and we had a stacked field in this division. In third with that cracking Tuna was Jacob Bristow Stagg. It was his only fish, also the heaviest, 6.230kg and 28.5 points. In second and also on pops boat, was "Hi Lucys Dad 👋' Jade Gauci. Jade had 2 species, 2 heaviest.0311kg and 32.6 points. In first with the biggest Sambo of the comp was Aiden Marshell. Aiden had 2 species, 1 heaviest, 11.644kg and 49.3 points. Good to see plenty of junior representing the section.
Into vets and we only had the one on day release for this comp. The others must have had to many cookies cream the night before.
Terry Bell had another very decent bag for a day that was hard going. Tez had 8 species, 8 heaviest, a massive 2.295kg and 132.6 points- nice one mate.
Into our ladies and these two have been on fire. This was another close one with only 1.8 points separating them. In second was Sally G with 8 species, 7 heaviest, 2.489kg and 127 points. In first, just, was Belinda Mallon with 9 species, 4 heaviest, 7.577kg and 129.2 points. Well done again ladies.
Into our men and in third with was Rob "Chuckie" Walters- still have not seen him do a karate kick-prob don't want to either. Chuckie had 8 species, 3 heaviest, 11.264kg and 120.5 points. In second and nearly hitting first was Scotty Gauci with 11 species, 4 heaviest, 3.114kg and 140.2 points. Just pipping Scotty was myself with 9 species, 4 heaviest, 14.205kg and 142.4 points.
With the last comp being on the 26th of September there are some really close categories still up for grabs!
Belinda Mallon has a one point lead in the Species category.
9 points between first and second in the interboat-Chuckie Walters and Scotty Cauci's vessels.
Only 90 points separates the top two females, Sally G and Belinda M.
And 11 Points between the Chuckie and Buckets in the men's.
Will be a good season rite to the very end.

Thanks again for all our helpers at the weigh in, makes light work with the bigger comps.

It looks like our Weigh in bench is going to be installed before Xmas, so hopefully we can have it sorted for the Kids Annual Comp.

If you have not purchased tickets for the end of season presentation night/party. There is a link on the clubs page and website. Will be a mint night as it is our first one at the new club! Rumors there is an after party at Josh Teh's palace 🥳🥳

Next boat comp 26Th September- Grand final Weekend.
I would expect most of the dockers supporters to be fishing as there will be not much else to do on that day.😜😜

With terrible weather on the way after some cracking days, it can mean only one thing…

It’s beach comp time! 🎣

Thankfully, after one decent-weather comp, we’re back to what we’re used to, and the final comp of the year will be held this weekend in some terrible weather!

Sunday might be a touch better than Saturday, so fingers crossed.

Usual stuff — no boundaries.

Start: 5am Saturday
Weigh-in: 4pm sharp Sunday at the club
No late bags will be accepted.

Any questions, don’t hesitate to contact myself, Daniel Bell.

Let’s hope we can find some fish for the last comp of the season!

Good luck and stay safe! 🤙

Congratulations to the Thompson kids for cleaning up at the PGFC Junior Tuna comp this weekend. Heidi was the star of the show and ended up with 3 awards for here efforts.
Heidi ended up with a nice 6.94kg Southern Bluefin Tuna on 6kg line class. A great fish which earned her Heaviest Tuna for her age group,6kg line class winner and most meritorious catch.
Harvey also did well with a 2.9kg SBT on 4kg line class. This earned Harvey the win for heaviest fish for his age group.
It was great to see an ORSSC presence at this comp i do know a few other members did enter but the average weather conditions and boat maintenance meant they couldnt get out for a fish.

Fish offshore in WA? Have your say on Commonwealth Marine Parks 🎣
⠀
The current review of Commonwealth Marine Parks could affect some of WA’s most valued offshore fishing areas, including Geographe Bay, the Rottnest Trench, Two Rocks and Ningaloo.
⠀
With the Commonwealth Government aiming to protect 30% of Australia’s marine environment by 2030, fishers need to speak up for the places that matter to them.
⠀
Recfishwest’s position is clear: great fishing, abundant fish and healthy oceans go hand in hand. 🌊🐟
⠀
Existing marine parks show conservation and fishing can successfully co-exist. Any changes should be based on sound science, demonstrated ecological need and proportionate management, without unnecessarily locking fishers out.

Recfishwest will make its own submission and is supporting the national campaign led by the Australian Recreational Fishing Foundation and Game Fishing Association of Australia.
