🏆 Congratulations Peter French – Bowls WA Volunteer of the Year! 🏆

The Perth Bowling & Recreation Club is incredibly proud to congratulate our President, Peter French, on being named Bowls WA Juniper Volunteer of the Year at the 2025–26 Bowls WA Awards Night held at Optus Stadium.

Peter’s contribution to our club has been outstanding. His leadership, dedication and tireless volunteer work have helped guide Perth Bowling Club through an important period in its history, including securing the club’s future, supporting major projects and continuing to build a welcoming and progressive club environment.

In true Peter style, his acceptance speech was humble and heartfelt. Rather than focus on himself, Peter acknowledged the culture of the Perth Bowling Club — a club that survives and thrives because of the strong contribution of volunteers across every part of our community.

This award is a wonderful recognition of Peter’s service, but also a proud moment for every Perth Bowling Club member and volunteer who helps make our club what it is.

The Perth Bowling Club was proud to announce the naming of B Green as the Peter French “B” Green at last nights club awards in recognition of Peter’s outstanding service, commitment and leadership.

Peter has been a terrific volunteer for many years and has played a major role in guiding the club through an important period in its history. As Club President, Peter has been instrumental in leading key projects and securing the club’s future, including the successful lease agreement with the City of Perth and the installation of the new synthetic green.

This naming is a well-deserved tribute to Peter’s tireless work, dedication and passion for the Perth Bowling Club.

Congratulations Peter, and thank you for everything you continue to do for our club and community.

A huge thank you to Hanssen Construction for holding their social event at the Perth Bowling & Recreation Club Inc last Friday.

With more than 200 guests in attendance, it was fantastic to see everyone enjoying friendly bowls, great food, drinks, and a beautiful autumn afternoon at the club.

As one of Perth’s biggest and most respected building companies, Hanssen Construction brought an incredible atmosphere to the day and we truly appreciated the opportunity to host the event.

What a fantastic day at Perth Bowling & Recreation Club Inc yesterday as Australia took out the Australia v Rest of the World club challenge in a thrilling and hard-fought contest, winning 5 rinks to 1 overall with a remarkably close total shots score of 60–52! Teams are picked based on club members place of birth which included Australia along with England, New Zealand, Hungary, Burma, Germany, Mauritius, South Africa and Netherlands representing the great cultural diversity of our club.

The day also marked a major milestone for the Club with the official opening of our brand-new synthetic green. A huge thank you and congratulations to Club President Peter French and Greens & Surrounds Committee member Rowdy Nelson, who both dedicated countless hours of hard work behind the scenes to ensure the green was ready in time for this special occasion, it was fitting that they rolled the first bowls. The end result is outstanding and we now have a fantastic surface that will be enjoyed by many over future years.

While the rivalry between Australia and the Rest of the World was friendly, the competition itself was fierce, with close games, great bowls, plenty of laughs and outstanding sportsmanship across the green all afternoon.

A massive thank you also goes to team managers Stan Curtis and Paul Lydiat for their fantastic organisation of the day, including putting on a great sausage sizzle lunch that was enjoyed by all.

Thank you to all 27 players who took part and helped make the event such a success. The atmosphere, team spirit and camaraderie shown throughout the day highlighted exactly what our Club is all about.

With another memorable edition complete, Australia now lead the series 2–0 and we’re already looking forward to doing it all again at a similar time next year!

Everyone is welcome — members, visitors, experienced bowlers and anyone keen to give bowls a go. It is a great format for new bowlers, with plenty of fun, friendly competition and good club spirit.

Even better, Winter Scroungers returns just in time to coincide with the new synthetic green opening for play.

Come down, have a roll, and be part of the first Sunday session on the new surface.
