Grading — Congratulations to our young and very enthusiastic karateka, Ariana, on achieving 7th Kyu Ho - Yellow Belt with Orange Stripe!

Ariana put in an amazing effort on the night and showed just how quickly she’s progressing. And clearly, Yellow Belt wasn’t enough — she even took on our Green Belt kata!

Fantastic effort, Ariana. Keep that enthusiasm coming!

A big night at Plympton Dojo with Sensei Yew taking the reins for his first night as Head Instructor.

The first class had everyone learning, teaching and learning again — student becomes the teacher, becomes the student. Students worked one-on-one with their partners, giving feedback and helping each other through the basics. A great way to see everyone involved and thinking about their own karate from a different perspective.

The second class was all about movement, evasion and timing, finishing with some excellent kata practice.

A fantastic night of training and a great start for Sensei Yew in his new role. Well done, Sensei!

Welcome to GKR, Diyana!

Diyana signed up at our shopping centre display on Tuesday afternoon, thanks to Mum, and was straight into her first class at Plympton that night!

It was pretty obvious from the start that she loves karate... and with plenty of Karate Kid watching under her belt, she already had a few moves ready to go!

For her very first night, Diyana was absolutely awesome. Great attitude, plenty of enthusiasm and a fantastic start to her karate journey. We’re looking forward to seeing what comes next!

A special thank you to Sensei Adrian for taking Diyana through her entire first class and giving her such a fantastic introduction to karate. Great teaching, Sensei!

Tuesday night at Plympton Dojo.... and there was a lot happening!

Our first class had a bit of everything: welcoming new students and FREE Trial Class visitors, kumite, basics, and a mix of basics and self-defence. Plenty of karate for everyone!

Then came the second class, where things took a slightly different turn - brand new kata, created right here at Plympton, along with plenty of kata workshops across the grades.

Two classes, plenty of variety and a whole lot of karate. That's a pretty good Tuesday night!

In mid-June, several of our Queensland, New South Wales and Victorian senior group volunteered to complete a Homes set-up with our charity partner, RizeUp Australia.

RizeUp provides all the practical items needed for victim-survivors of family and domestic violence to make a fresh start, including furniture and other household items that help transform empty houses into homes.

When each of our GKR teams arrived at their location, they were greeted by a RizeUp driver, an empty house and a truck filled with flatpacks and homewares. The teams set about unloading the truck, assembling the flatpacks, making beds, filling pantries and carefully decorating the space. This included fitting out children’s bedrooms and providing them with the materials needed to start at a new school.

After 4+ hours of work at each location, the transformation from house to home left a lasting memory for all involved. With the knowledge that a family would be entering their newly furnished home in the coming days, each team member took comfort in knowing that they had helped create a new beginning for someone in need.

We are incredibly grateful to RizeUp for the work they do and for the opportunity to be involved in their Homes program. We also appreciate the amazing support shown by all of our students and instructors who participate in the Stop Domestic & Family Violence Purple Belt Campaign. Your involvement means a lot, not only to RizeUp and the families they help, but also to GKR Karate as a whole.

If you would like to volunteer with RizeUp to help setting up Homes, information can be found here https://www.rizeup.com.au/volunteer
