Thanks to Brett Whiteley for the visit down at the club. It was good to have a discussion on what we need to bring our club up to scratch and also the future of our great club. Get behind him and give him your vote for Mayor at the Latrobe Council Election

Thanks to the boys from Port Sorell Cricket Club for bringing me up to speed on their ongoing battle to get some needed support from council.

I was amazed to learn that they operate on a 12 month lease.

Without certainty they are unable to apply for Cricket Australia grants or any other grants on offer to improve their facilities.

Also unbelievable that this active club does not have kitchen facilities or not even one changeroom!

The ground is unusable way too often due to the lack of drainage.

They are not asking for the world just a little bit of support.

Port Sorell's population continues to grow including more young families so it's time to get our infrastructure up to scratch!

Training this Sunday at the Latrobe indoor nets.

Would be great to see a big turnout and a few new faces as well. We’ve got a big year ahead at Port Sorell and there’s a good feeling around the club at the moment.

Let’s get as many there as we can, have a good hit and put in a bit of work. The more we get training together now, the better we’ll be when the season starts.

See you Sunday 🦈

STEPHEN CASEY — A-GRADE CAPTAIN 🏏

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that Stephen Casey has accepted the role of A-Grade captain for the upcoming season.

Stephen has been an outstanding leader around our club for a long time. He has led our A-Reserves side to back-to-back premierships, performing when it mattered most and showing exactly the sort of leadership you want from someone in charge.

But what makes Stephen such a great leader goes well beyond what he does on the cricket field. He is always the first to put his hand up, always willing to help and always there when the club needs him. He genuinely cares about the people around him and about making our club better.

We are incredibly lucky to have him.

Seeing Stephen win a premiership alongside his son Charlie two years ago was one of those moments that makes you proud to be part of a cricket club. It was about more than just winning a premiership. It summed up what this club is all about — family, mates, commitment and creating memories that last a lifetime.

Now Stephen gets the opportunity to lead our A-Grade side into a new chapter, and we genuinely could not ask for a better person to have at the helm.

Daniel Frenda Briggs Recommits 🦈❤️🩶

When we looked at our squad last season, we knew we were missing a bit of genuine pace after losing a couple of quick bowlers to retirement.

Unlike some clubs, we’re not big on poaching players from other clubs. We’d much rather look to past players, local players or blokes who have stepped away from the game — and one name immediately came to mind: Daniel Frenda Briggs.

After five or six years away from cricket, Frenda came back and absolutely delivered.

🏏 26 wickets at an average of 10.35
🏏 Nearly 550 runs at an average of 60
🏏 Exceptional in the field
🏏 First to training, last to leave

He quickly became our marquee player and, more importantly, had a massive impact on the entire club. His enthusiasm, work ethic and performances lifted everyone around him, and it was bloody fantastic having him back in the Sharks colours.

Naturally, after the season he put together, there were clubs having a crack at him. But character counts for plenty, and Frenda has remained committed to the club and recommitted for another season.

Now he gets the chance to step up to A Grade and see what he can produce at the next level.

You genuinely couldn't ask for a better bloke to have around your cricket club. His commitment, character and work ethic are exceptional, and we're absolutely wrapped to have him back.

Welcome back, Frenda. 🦈

The Sharks are going to need you. ❤️🩶

Trent McCrossen & Jeremy Soden Recommit

We’re thrilled to announce that Trent McCrossen and Jeremy Soden have both recommitted to the Port Sorell Sharks for another season, entering their fourth year at the club.

They might be getting on a little bit 😂, but there’s no denying these two still ooze class. More importantly, they’ve become bloody good clubmen and have played a huge role in helping lift the social culture around the club.

Having played plenty of sport together over the years, the pair bring plenty of experience, competitiveness and, of course, a bit of banter. They’ve been a massive part of the turnaround in fortunes at the Sharks over recent seasons, both on and off the field.

We’re bloody glad to have them back on board and looking forward to seeing what they can produce in A Grade.

PS: Maybe, just maybe, the boys might have a good mate joining them this season. 👀🦈

The Perkins Boys Are Back! 🦈🔴⚪

We’re bloody stoked to announce that Zac and Jake Perkins have both recommitted to Port Sorell Cricket Club and embraced the challenge of A Grade cricket! 🏏

Zac has been part of our last two A Reserve premiership sides, while Jake has played plenty of cricket for Port Sorell over the years and returned to the club last season.

Both are quality all-rounders who can bat, bowl and field, but more importantly, they’re two blokes of great character, commitment and loyalty.

And let’s not forget — two genuine A Grade cricketers in their twenties! In this day and age, that’s a bloody rare commodity. We reckon we’re pretty bloody lucky to have them both!

Massive for the Sharks. Welcome back, Zac & Jake! 🦈
