🔴🏏 TEAM OF THE WEEK | ROUND 1 🏏🔴

Our first Preston Baseballers Team of the Week for season 2026/27 is here, and what a way to kick things off!

Some fantastic individual performances across our senior sides, with plenty to celebrate! 👏

🏏 R. Hanson (141 off 86) and W. Long (60 not out) combined for a sensational 200-run opening partnership for the 2nd XI!

👏 Matty Parente brought up his first 50, retiring on 50 not out! A fantastic milestone!

🔥 Imalsha Karunanayake delivered on his promise with a brilliant all-round performance, retiring on 50 not out before claiming 3/18 with the ball!

🎯 Josh Sortino made an immediate impact in his return to the club, picking up 3/18!

💪 Plenty of other terrific contributions with both bat and ball rounded out a strong opening weekend.

🔴⚪🏏 HANSON GOES HUGE! 141 OFF 86 BALLS! 💥🔥

What a way to start the season!

Richard Hanson certainly made his mark on the opening weekend of the 2026/27 season, producing an extraordinary innings for our 2nd XI!

Opening the batting, Rich put on an incredible display of power hitting, smashing 141 runs from just 86 deliveries!

And the numbers speak for themselves! 🤯

🔥 118 RUNS IN BOUNDARIES ALONE!

Alongside fellow opener Will Long, the pair put together a magnificent 200-run opening partnership, with Rich taking centre stage in a truly memorable batting performance.

📸 And that smile says it all! Pictured just moments after his innings, with 141 runs to his name and a brilliant start to the summer.

A special milestone for Matty yesterday, bringing up his first half-century for Preston Baseballers!

Playing in our 3rd XI one-day side, Matty retired on 50 to kick off the 2026/27 season in style.

Congratulations, Matty! A fantastic personal achievement! 👏🔴⚪

Sometimes cricket gives us a story worth sharing!

Last season, Imalsha Karunananayake was left out of our 2nd XI preliminary final before being recalled for the Grand Final.

At the premiership medal re-presentation, Imalsha reflected on being dropped and made a promise:

🗣️ "Next year I'm gonna make a 50."

Well, he didn't waste any time!

In his very next match, and his first of the 2026/27 season, Imalsha delivered on that promise against Melbourne Deaf in our 3rd XI.

🏏 50 not out (retired) from 45 balls, including 5 fours and 2 sixes.

🎯 3/18 with the ball!

His first half-century for Preston Baseballers!

From making a promise at the medal presentation to delivering in his very next game!

🔴⚪🏏 92 YEARS APART – TWO NEW BEGINNINGS!

1934/35 ➡️ 2026/27

Tomorrow marks a historic occasion for the Preston Baseballers Cricket Club as we begin a new chapter in the Eastern Cricket Association (ECA).

For the first time since joining the JIKA competition in 1934/35, the Baseballers are stepping into a new competition.

📖 WHERE IT ALL BEGAN – 1934/35

Our first JIKA match was against Braithwaites.

🏏 Braithwaites – 108
⭐ Westcott – 4/30

🏏 Preston Baseballers – 5/66
⭐ McDonald – 16
⭐ R. Spoor – 12

The match finished in a draw after time ran out.

Now, 92 years later, another chapter in our proud club history is about to begin.

Our 1st XI and 3rd XI are both at home tomorrow, and we'd love to see Oulton Reserve filled with red and white!

🔴⚪🏏 TEAMS ARE IN – A NEW CHAPTER BEGINS! 🏏⚪🔴

A big weekend ahead for the Preston Baseballers as our men's sides play their first matches in the Eastern Cricket Association (ECA), while our Diamonds look to continue their winning start to the season!

🏏 1ST XI – ROUND 1

Our 1s kick off their ECA campaign at home against Burwood Uniting Canterbury.

A big congratulations to Gus Coles, who makes his 1st XI debut! Well done, Gus! 👏

🏏 2ND XI – ROUND 1

Our 2s head to Cooper Reserve to take on Burwood Uniting Canterbury in their opening ECA clash.

A special shoutout to Luke Wentworth and Pat Curotte, who will both pull on the red and white for the first time. Welcome to the Baseballers, boys! 👏

🏏 3RD XI – ROUND 1

Our 3s are also at home, hosting Melbourne Deaf in their first ECA match.

A big welcome to Viraal Patel, playing his first game for the club, while it's fantastic to see Josh and Matthew Sortino back out on the cricket field after a long time away from the game! Great to have you both back! 💪

💎 DIAMONDS – ROUND 2

Our Diamonds travel to Eltham Central Park on Sunday to take on Eltham, looking to make it two wins from two to start the season!

A big congratulations to Addi Walker, who plays her first senior game this weekend! Good luck, Addi! 👏
