Your coach asks "how many more could you have done?" and you've got no idea. That's what RPE and RIR are for.
RIR is reps in reserve: how many clean reps you had left when you racked the bar. RPE runs on a scale of 1 to 10, so an RPE 8 means you had about two left. Plenty of people training on their own stop well short of where the change happens. Others take every set to the limit and then wonder why their shoulder is cranky.
Guessing honestly is a skill, and it gets better when a coach checks your guesses. We're teaching it at Big Lifts on Sunday 25 October at Habitat in Prestons.
Send this to the person who always says "one more".
