๐Ÿฆ‹ Hello SPRING!! ๐ŸŒผ Hello September!

๐Ÿฆ‹ To those inhabitants of the Southern Hemisphere of our planet, September marks the beginning of Spring. The butterfly and its ๐™ข๐™š๐™ฉ๐™–๐™ข๐™ค๐™ง๐™ฅ๐™๐™ค๐™จ๐™ž๐™จ are a perfect symbol for ๐™ฃ๐™š๐™ฌ ๐™—๐™š๐™œ๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™ฃ๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™œ๐™จ and fresh starts as it emerges from its chrysalis, melting the winter cold of stagnation, darkness, and hibernation with warm hopes for change, growth, and regeneration.

๐Ÿ› Living in accordance with nature is a fundamental pillar of Stoic Philosophy. The ancient Stoics taught that the ๐™˜๐™ฎ๐™˜๐™ก๐™ž๐™˜๐™–๐™ก ๐™ฃ๐™–๐™ฉ๐™ช๐™ง๐™š ๐™ค๐™› ๐™ฉ๐™๐™š ๐™จ๐™š๐™–๐™จ๐™ค๐™ฃ๐™จ was a metaphor for life's constant changes.

๐Ÿ› Most importantly, they advocated that the point of power was always in the present moment, and all experiences were opportunities to act virtuously regardless of the seasons, phases and changes that unfolded in life.

Marcus Aurelius, a Stoic Philosopher, reminds us of the perfection of Nature and that Life itself is change, with his quote:

In Stoic Yoga, every lesson is a potential new beginning, a reset, a renewal and an opportunity for growth, metamorphosis, and ๐™ฉ๐™ง๐™–๐™ฃ๐™จ๐™›๐™ค๐™ง๐™ข๐™–๐™ฉ๐™ž๐™ค๐™ฃ.

๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ "All this hurrying from place to place wonโ€™t bring you any relief,
for youโ€™re travelling in the company of your own emotions,
followed by your troubles all the way."

- Lucius Annaeus Seneca,
Letters from a Stoic

โœจ๏ธ I love these little reminders.
We all need them now and then.
Little bursts of timeless Philosophy and wisdom to keep us in check and on track to remind us of our mortality and that all things come to pass eventually, life is change, here now, gone tomorrow so why rush.

โœจ๏ธ Throughout your days, as often as you can, pause, be still, take in, soak in, observe, all the beauty that you can, reflect, let go and like I say in all my classes, "be here now".

โœจ๏ธ As much as you can. As often as you can. In any and all conditions.

โœˆ๏ธ Whether you're on holidays or in your regular routine, how present are you?

๐Ÿ› Seneca reminds us that all the hurrying in the world achieves nothing, you'll miss precious moments if the mind is elsewhere, because ultimately you take yourself with you wherever you go and all the rushing around and changing locations offers no relaxation, solace or relief, because we always "travel in the company of our own emotions" with the internal baggage we lug along with us.

๐Ÿ™ True peace is fundamentally an internal state rather than an external condition.

๐Ÿ“You can change your location, but inner peace is your true and ideal destination.

๐Ÿ’ซ Remember, wherever you go, there you are.

โณ๏ธ "Keep in mind how fast things pass by
and are gone โ€” those that are now, and those to come.

Existence flows past us like a river: the โ€œwhatโ€ is in constant flux, the โ€œwhyโ€ has a thousand variations.

Nothing is stable, not even whatโ€™s right here.

The infinity of past and future gapes before us โ€” a chasm whose depths we cannot see."
Marcus Aurelius, Meditations

๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ My students often hear me say in class "we are not here forever", "be here now", "nothing lasts forever, good or bad".

๐Ÿ› The Stoics remind us repeatedly of the fleeting nature of existence. One season, gives into the next, one feeling gives into the next, one breath gives into the next. Think of how many emotions you go through in a day. Life is always in flux.

๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ Learn to go with the flow, on and off your mats. No matter how difficult or easy a pose is, it will give way to the next. No matter what good or bad thing you're experiencing currently in your life, Nature promises to change it and never let you rest.

โœจ๏ธ Nature is our greatest teacher.
๐Ÿ™ Blessed are the free flowing ones.

๐ŸŒŠ ๐ŸŒž ๐ŸŒง ๐ŸŒณ Whatever season or stage of life you're in, the passage of time, will always win.

guided meditation and breathwork classes designed to regulate the nervous system, clear, and calm the mind, and reconnect with the body through conscious breathing.

Simple, practical, and suitable for all levels.

๐Ÿ› Inspired by Stoic philosophy, we explore the breath as both a practical wellbeing tool and a way to return to what is within your controlโ€”one conscious inhale and exhale at a time.

๐ŸŒฌ We come into this life on an inhale and leave it on an exhale. ๐ŸŒฌ

โ”๏ธBut what about all the breaths in between?
โ”๏ธHow deep, healing, and expansive are your inhales?
โ”๏ธHow slow, long, and freeing are your exhales?

๐ŸŒฌ Just one conscious breath can change the way you feel. ๐Ÿ˜‡

๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ In class, youโ€™ll learn practical conscious breathing techniques to support relaxation, calm, clarity, and connection .

The session begins with a brief yoga and movement warm-up, followed by breath and body awareness, and a guided breathwork and meditation practice in a supportive in-person setting.

๐ŸŒฌ Most importantly, experience true presence, by learning to anchor yourself entirely in the "here and now", focusing on the rhythmic flow of air entering and leaving the body rather than being at the mercy of the programmed overthinking mind. A potentially transformative offering to reset mind, body, and emotions.

๐ŸŒฌ Conscious diaphragmatic breathing can act like a natural reset button. It is one of the most effective ways to stimulate the vagus nerve and support the autonomic nervous systemโ€”helping to either calm or energise the breath, mind, and body.

Looking forward to meeting you on your mats. ๐Ÿ™

โœ๏ธ Happy Easter to everyone celebrating todayโ€”or next Sunday for Orthodox Easter โœ๏ธ
ฮšฮฑฮปฯŒ ฮ ฮฌฯƒฯ‡ฮฑ ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™Œ

โœจ๏ธ Easter celebrates:

๐Ÿ™ Hope, renewal, mercy, and forgiveness

๐Ÿ™ Love over fear and light over darkness

๐Ÿ™ Surrender and release of the ego to the light of truth

๐Ÿ™ Our eternal and divine nature โ€” the crucifixion of ego and body, but not our eternal Spirit

๐Ÿ™ Resurrection โ€” awakening from the amnesia and the illusion of separation

๐Ÿ™ Recognition that God is within us

๐Ÿ™ The symbol of Jesus the โ€œChristโ€ โ€” his role as an ultimate example, who teaches "I Am the Way, the Light, and the Life", and that we too can save and spare ourselves the suffering, like him, choose this path as well

๐Ÿ™ When we forget that we are all worthy aspects of God โ€” small like grains of sand, yet holy parts of a vast whole โ€” we suffer under the illusion of separation

๐Ÿ™ When we hurt another, we hurt ourselves. As we let go of the illusion and perceived separation from God โ€” either by choice or by grace โ€” we can reawaken, reconnect, and remember that the Kingdom of God is also within us.

๐Ÿ™ Choose Love. Choose peace. Choose forgiveness โ€” for yourself and others. Not just at Easter: now, always now, in any moment and under any conditions. Take the highest conscious path, whether by choice or by grace, you have the free will to ask.

โœจ๏ธ "The time has now arrived at which they must raise the eye of the soul to the Universal Light which lightens all things." โ€” Plato

๐ŸŒŒ It's hard to have that expanded perspective of us on our home planet Earth spinning around a sun/star that is part of a greater universe.

๐ŸŒŽ Daily liife as we know it and being human is dominated by the mundane trivial tasks of basic survival, getting by, all while trying to make sense and find meaning and purpose to our existence.

Some care, some don't.

๐Ÿ™ For those that care, don't stop, keep caring.
You matter.

How to connect to the light within and beyond your little self? In this big universe?

There are many practical ways to make that connection and expand your perception.

โœจ๏ธ Start with your Life-force.

Breathe now.
Consciously. With intention and attention.

The dial is within. Turn up your light.
Your body is the veil to greater awareness.

โœจ๏ธ Even one deep breath in and longer exhale out can soften resistance in the body.

โœจ๏ธ Connect to that Light-force. Your Life-force. Return to the breath often.

โœจ๏ธ So long as you're in a body and alive on this planet, breathing is your operating system.

โณ๏ธ The time is now. Start now.
Just as you are, in any and all conditions.

โœจ๏ธ Shine your light bright before it dims and you depart your body.

๐ŸŒŽ When you breathe, you are not just taking in oxygen; you are participating in the "operating system" of the entire planet. Your light is part of the greater whole.

๐Ÿ› The Stoics such as Marcus Aurelius also spoke of the mind as an "inner citadel."
Direct it. When the world feels overwhelming, your conscious breath is the bridge back to that safe, lit space where the external chaos can't reach you.

๐ŸŒฌ Only you can breathe for you.

Don't worry about others. Don't wait for others. Don't let others dim your light or take your breath or light away.

๐Ÿ› Plato reminds us the time has now arrived. Now. It was and is Always now.

๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ In our Stoic Yoga lessons we try to ignite the light and spark within, one aware breath at a time.

โœจ๏ธ "If a little is not enough for you, nothing is" once said Epicurus, our wise ancient Greek philosopher friend.

๐Ÿ› Epicurus reminds us that if you cannot find peace in simple things, you will remain empty even in luxury.

๐Ÿ’ฐ Define true wealth?

โœจ๏ธ For me...contentment and finding joy and peace in simplicity...little moments of noticing, pausing, appreciating and connecting to myself, nature and to others is a richness available to us all.โœจ๏ธ

But we have to define it for ourselves and then choose it daily.

๐Ÿ˜ž Dissatisfaction, insatiable desires and constant craving is a form of poverty and a bottomless pitt easy to fall into. However, appreciating small blessings leads to inner peace and over time an overflowing heart.

We are not here forever and we take nothing with us. So choose wisely.

๐Ÿ™ Thank you to my wonderful students Tabitha and Jackie for our little chit chat after our class tonight as we were walking back to our cars. Community happens between people and contented hearts๐Ÿ™

๐ŸŒฌ How deep is your breath?

How long is your exhale?

Breath is central to yoga because breath is central to life.

Where there is no breath, people perish.

"๐™„ ๐™—๐™ง๐™š๐™–๐™ฉ๐™๐™š, ๐™ฉ๐™๐™š๐™ง๐™š๐™›๐™ค๐™ง๐™š ๐™„ ๐™–๐™ข"

โ“๏ธ Did you know you are just one breath away from feeling a little bit better?

โ“๏ธ Did you know, that deep and slow diaphragmatic breathing is one of the most effective ways to stimulate the vagus nerve? Which is the main component of the parasympathetic nervous system (a.k.a "rest and digest"). It originates in the brainstem and branches out to the heart, lungs, and digestive tract and beyond with endless benefits.

๐Ÿ™ Try it. Pause...take a deep breath in...take a little more in....hold it....now breathe out longer and longer and a little longer. Feel that shift and release. Repeat.

In this day and age...we are so focused on " I think, therefore I am". We are so focused on efficient, productive and profitable thinking. We are so in our head, no wonder why we are overwhelmed and overstimulated.

However, there is also something much more powerful and often overlooked and if we learned a little bit more about our powerful life-force, our breath and breathing, we could tap into a deep reservoir of strength and power that can easily shift our nervous system, our joy, our emotion, our physical body and much more into a higher state.

๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ In our Stoic Yoga lessons, we explore this life-force, this innate power of breath, call it life-force, call it pneuma, call it spirit, call it pranayama, call it qi-gong, it doesnโ€™t matter the name we call it, it applies to all living beings on this planet! ๐ŸŒŽ

We let it lead our movements, we let it guide us and expand us, we let it heal and nourish us, one breath at a time.

"๐™„ ๐™—๐™ง๐™š๐™–๐™ฉ๐™๐™š, ๐™ฉ๐™๐™š๐™ง๐™š๐™›๐™ค๐™ง๐™š ๐™„ ๐™–๐™ข"

๐ŸŒฌ Say and do this daily, see the peace that washes over you, see that weight that lifts off your chest, just a few conscious breaths daily can be a nice little habit to cultivate for your practical well-being.
