π¦ WATER SAFETY IS ABOUT MORE THAN JUST BEING ABLE TO SWIM π¦
Even children who are confident and capable swimmers can panic when faced with an unexpected situation in the water.
Thatβs why at Waterwise, we like to introduce our swimmers to a range of different scenarios and experiences β because the more prepared they are, the better equipped they are to remain calm if something unexpected happens. β€οΈ
This week, some of our Learn to Swim children are practising paddling their raft back to safety while wearing life jackets. π
Throughout our lessons, we also incorporate different water safety activities such as:
π Swimming in different clothing
π₯½ Swimming without goggles
π Using life jackets and flotation devices
π Practising unfamiliar or unexpected situations
πΆ Learning how to move themselves towards safety
These experiences are all layers of water safety. They help children understand that swimming in a lesson environment is very different from finding themselves unexpectedly in the water.
Our goal isnβt just to teach children how to swim β itβs to help them develop the skills, confidence and calmness they need to respond as safely as possible if they ever face a real-life situation.
Because water safety is about being prepared for the unexpected. π
