WA got very close to knocking off Victoria this year. They’ll be desperate not to lose on home soil again this time against South Australia, but have they got the team to get it done?

Out: Broad, Lobb, O’Meara, Coniglio, Warner, English

It’s all there for Fremantle. They got as close as to feeling like Premiers as any non premier probably ever has before. Will they be able to bounce back from that mentally? That’s probably the biggest question going into 2027. I think they can, they’re too good not to. They did have a very good run with injury in 2026, and I’m pretty sure they won’t have Pearce to start the season but I think they’ll be fine. Surely Darcy has more to offer than Mason Cox, or alternatively one of the forwards could pinch hit in the ruck.

Sydney’s backline will be an interesting watch in pre-season. Blakey going to North, Cunningham to Adelaide, Mills most likely out for the season and uncertainty around Rampe’s future that’s a lot of change. I think they’ve got the recourses to cover. Roberts and Serong played mostly wing last season but have all played back in the past as has Lloyd who was moved back for the finals series, but it’ll be interesting to see what they decide to go with.

After falling agonisingly short of a Grand Final, Hawthorn have gone and added two genuine A-Graders in Zach Merrett and Ben King. The Hawks should now have everything they can possibly need with exceptional depth in every position on the ground. They’re the bookies favourite for the 2027 Premiership and anything less than that would be a massive disappointment for Hawthorn in 2027. Pressure is on to deliver.

Geelong are going to be pretty good again next season. Needless to say the Cats are all chips in. They’re going to make sure they’re still contenting every season and give themselves every possible chance whilst generational players in Jeremy Cameron, Tom Stewart and Patrick Dangerfield are still there playing excellent football.

Truth be told, I’m a little bit worried about St Kilda going forward. I’m just not sure what the plan is exactly. This side isn’t terrible, but it’s just very meh. They’ve got B graders earning A grade money and I’m not sure where the improvement is coming from. I’d like to be proven wrong but I can’t see St Kilda finishing anywhere other than that 9th-12th range in 2027. Let me know your thoughts Saints fans, is that too harsh?

Adelaide have a very good side. All they’re missing is probably couple more star players to take them to that next level. But it’s pretty hard to bring those guys in and there’s no point in bringing in more solid players for the sake of it, they’ve got plenty of depth. For now, they need guys like Rachele, Curtin, Michalanney to go to that next level and become All-Australian calibre players, plus they need Thilthorpe to get back to his 2025 form.

Let me know your thoughts Crows fans, who’s stiff to miss?
