Event # 657 - 17th October 2026
The rain stayed away and we were treated to a beautiful, sunny morning! ☀️ 363 people ran, jogged and walked our beautiful, beachside course 🏃♂️🏃♀️🚶🧑🦽🚶🏼♀️🚶🏽♂️🦮🐕🦺
We welcomed 👋 53 Rockingham parkrun first timers, including 35 people finishing their very first parkrun 🏅
⏱️🏆34 legends recorded new Personal Bests 👏
Representatives of 19 different clubs took part♣️
🙌💖Our parkrun event is only made possible because of amazing volunteers!! Today, 25 selfless people, volunteered, to enable all 363 people to participate in parkrun:
Pauline HARRIS • Kathy LOWE • Chris LOWE • Wendy BRADDOW • Jennifer LIMB • Paul SILCHINGER • Kel MEDBURY • Annemarie SILCHINGER • Amanda WARD • Diane LAWRENCE • Xanthe MOODIE • Tom GRUBIC • Julie DELLAS • Elizabeth ROBINSON • Bron LARNER • June CONWAY • Steven ROBINSON • Harry HALL • Arthur HALL • Seane HALL • Jennifer MEDBURY • Declan PROSPER • Yvonne MCBRIDE • Steeve WHITEHEAD • Maureen NILSON
Thank you, so much for volunteering! It was great fun to hang out with you today 🤩
If you've never volunteered - put your name down, and give back to your parkrun community. It's great fun, all roles are easy, full training given on the day, and there's an added bonus of feeling good about yourself!! 😍
⚠️ ↖️ ⁉️ Today, members of the public and parkrun participants voiced several complaints! During our pre-parkrun safety briefing, everyone was reminded to KEEP LEFT and NOT BLOCK THE PATH FOR OTHERS. However, we received many concerning reports of path-hogging, disrespect towards other users, and refusal to move to the left. Sadly, some parkrun participants displayed rude behaviour.
At parkrun, we strive to create a safe, respectful, and welcoming community event for participants, spectators, volunteers, and the general public.
Our parkrun event requires significantly more volunteering hours than the typical two hours most people see on a Saturday.
During the week, we (the event team) organise volunteer rosters, prepare and maintain parkrun gear, manage event team admin, charge the PA speaker, ensure all 400+ finish tokens are available and organised. On parkrun day, we set up cones and place the turnaround flag; manage volunteers, safety briefings and course checks; handle problems, questions, and complaints. After the event, we process the results and volunteer rosters, sort and replace lost tokens, upload social media and photos, wash and dry volunteer vests, advertise for future volunteers, and respond to messages and emails.
These unpaid tasks are done voluntarily between our full-time jobs. We’re very invested and fond of our friendly community event and all the wonderful participants and volunteers who’ve returned weekly for the past 13 years.
It’s disheartening to receive so many face-to-face complaints about parkrun participants being rude, aggressively hogging the path, being discourteous, and giving Rockingham parkrun a bad reputation. This disappointing behaviour creates an unsafe environment, increasing the risk of accidents and falls.
If our participants continue to be repeatedly rude, aggressively hog the path, and endanger others using the Rockingham beach path; we will be forced to close down our event.
When running or walking in a pack, you are visible and judged by your individual behaviour.
Please, please, KEEP LEFT, and be courteous and respectful to everyone you encounter! 🙏💖
Hope everyone has an enjoyable rest-of-the-weekend! 🏖️
looking forward to seeing you next Saturday at 8am!
