It is an outstanding opportunity for Ben to experience first-class cricket in one of the world's great cricketing nations and further build on an already exceptional umpiring career.

Ben has now umpired 29 first-class matches in Australia, including 28 Sheffield Shield fixtures, as well as the four-day first-class match between Australia A and India A in Mackay in 2024.

His career also includes:

๐Ÿ… Voted MVP by his Cricket Australia Contracted Umpire Panel colleagues
๐Ÿ… Recipient of the Cricket NSW Representative Umpire of the Year Award
๐Ÿ… Elected a Life Member of the NSW Cricket Umpiresโ€™ and Scorersโ€™ Association
๐Ÿ… Selected for the CAโ€“BCCI Umpire Exchange

Beyond the statistics and appointments, Ben's contribution to umpiring extends well beyond the field.

He is widely respected for his attitude, work ethic and commitment to continuous improvement. His preparation is meticulous, his knowledge of the Laws of Cricket and competition playing conditions is exceptional, and he has made a significant contribution to umpire education and development.

Ben has also consistently invested his time and experience in others, mentoring fellow officials, building relationships across the cricket and umpiring communities, and developing innovative education and training resources for NSWCUSA members and affiliated associations.

His commitment to Premier Cricket has been equally exemplary. Ben genuinely values the competition, remains heavily involved in it and continues to look for opportunities to give back to the cricket community that has played such an important role in his own development.

Congratulations, Ben, on this thoroughly deserved opportunity.

The major Cricket Australia senior representative program got under way in Sydney this week, with the NSW Breakers hosting Queensland in two Womenโ€™s National Cricket League matches at Cricket Central on Tuesday 29 September and Thursday 1 October.

The fixtures were particularly significant for State Umpire Panel members Bob McGregor and Nic Warburton, who both made their List A match debuts , a significant milestone in their officiating journeys.

Their selection was just reward for their commitment to excellence and sustained high level of performance.

Bob is a classic example of persistence and dedication to being ready when an opportunity arises. An Association member since 2009, he has officiated in 272 Menโ€™s Premier Cricket matches, including 151 in First Grade, giving him the extensive experience needed to take the next step. He has earned widespread respect for his consistency and unobtrusive on-field manner.

The Womenโ€™s Premier Cricket Panel One medallist for 2024-25 was also recognised for his outstanding efforts last season when he received the coveted George Borwick Memorial Award.

Since joining the Association in 2019, Nic has been identified as a young umpire on the rise and has now begun to fulfil the promise displayed in his early appearances. His maturity and calm control have been frequently noted, while his elevation to First Grade in Menโ€™s Premier Cricket has been rapid. Of his 46 matches, 15 have been in the top grade.

Nic also handled the Poidevin Gray Shield Final last season and, like Bob, travelled interstate under the Umpire Exchange program to gain experience of Premier Cricket in a different environment.

Partnering Bob and Nic across the two matches was fellow State Panel member Jeff Egan, while Janine Stainer served as Match Referee for both fixtures.

Congratulations to Bob and Nic on reaching this important milestone. We hope these List A debuts are the first of many matches at senior levels.

On Monday 7 September, Darren Goodger was unanimously elected a Life Member of the NSW Cricket Association, recognising almost four decades of outstanding service, leadership and dedication to cricket across New South Wales.

For those of us in the umpiring community, Darrenโ€™s contribution goes far beyond an incredible record on the field. He has been a mentor, educator, leader and tireless supporter of countless umpires and colleagues. Darren is always willing to share his knowledge, offer encouragement and help others succeed.

It was wonderful to see Darren receive this recognition, with NSWCA Chair John Knox and Life Member Brian Freedman OAM speaking so warmly about his remarkable contribution to the game.

In his typically humble response, Darren reflected on those who have supported him throughout his journey, particularly his Mum, and the great privilege and satisfaction he has found in building a career in the game he loves.

With many NSWCUSA members there to share the moment, it was a particularly special occasion.

Congratulations, Darren. A thoroughly deserved honour for an exceptional contribution to cricket in NSW.

Below is the official NSWCA citation for Darrenโ€™s Life Membership, outlining the remarkable career and contribution that has earned him this recognition.

Election of Life Member - Darren Goodger

Darren Goodger has devoted almost four decades of service to cricket as an umpire, administrator, educator and leader, making an exceptional contribution to the game across New South Wales.

Born in Grafton, Darren commenced umpiring in 1987-88 while completing his studies at Holy Spirit College Grafton, quickly progressing through the ranks in the Clarence River, North Coast and NSW Country Cricket Associations (NSWCCA). By the late 20th century, he was a member of the Country Umpire Representative Panel, including officiating the Country Championship Final in 1999-00 and being awarded Country Umpire of the Year the following season. In 2002, Darren relocated to Sydney, where he forged a reputation as one of the most revered umpires in NSW. He has officiated in 490 Sydney Cricket Association matches, 340 in First Grade, overseeing 23 finals, including five Belvidere Cup and five First Grade Limited Overs Cup deciders.

Darrenโ€™s respect among both players and fellow match officials, driven by his reverence for the gameโ€™s laws, spirit and significance in the community, saw him awarded First Grade Umpire of the Year honours on 16 occasions, while also being the recipient of the George Borwick Memorial Award seven times. He was also bestowed with several prestigious representative appointments, including Sheffield Shield, One-Day Domestic and Big Bash matches, numerous national championships and tour matches with international sides. Off the field, Darren's contribution has been equally significant. His devotion to umpire education and development, and the success of country cricket, has seen him hold numerous volunteer leadership positions. From 1995, he supported the operations of various cricket associations in Northern NSW, before filling similar roles with the NSW Cricket Umpiresโ€™ and Scorersโ€™ Association (NSWCUSA) upon moving to Sydney.

Darren continues to travel extensively across NSW to support the ongoing health of the game through his role at Cricket NSW as Chief Premier Cricket and Country Cricket Officer. His current position is the culmination of an 18-year tenure across many

umpiring, people development and competition lead roles, which have also afforded him international umpire development opportunities on behalf of Cricket Australia in six different countries. Already a Life Member of multiple cricket organisations, including the NSWCUSA and NSWCCA, Darrenโ€™s sustained and distinguished service has left a legacy on cricket throughout New South Wales.

The Life Membership Committee recognises his exceptional contribution through the nomination for Life Membership of the New South Wales Cricket Association.

Cricket is built on the dedication of people who give their time, expertise and passion to make the game better for everyone. This month we celebrate two remarkable individuals whose service has left a lasting impact on cricket across New South Wales, while also acknowledging key leadership milestones within the Sydney Cricket Association.

The Sydney Cricket Association (SCA) held their 40th AGM at Cricket Central on August 10.

Congratulations to Geoff Garland who was honoured with the 40th SCA Life membership for his contribution to UNSWCC, Sydney University CC and Epping Bulls CC, as well as the NSWCUSA.

Geoff has given sustained and exemplary service to our Association since joining in 1991. He served as a member of the Training Committee, Mentor, On Field Umpire Observer, Board Director and as Chairman for five years. Geoff umpired 494 menโ€™s premier cricket fixtures, 134 of which were in first grade. He was made a Life member of NSWCUSA in 2019 and is a proud Life member of UNSWCC being the clubโ€™s inaugural first grade captain.

Paul Goldsmith was elected the new SCA Chairman for 2026-27 after Graham Gorrie stood down from the position having served with distinction for seven seasons.

Graham will continue on the SCA Committee of Management as Deputy Chairman alongside other elected committee members Warwick Adlam, Andrew Falk, Brian Freedman and Alan Wright.

Congratulations also to Ben Treloar on being honoured with Life membership of NSWCUSA, becoming the 59th Life member of the Association at a Special General Meeting held on July 1.

Ben has made an outstanding contribution to the Association, on and off field. Prior to his employment as Education Officer for the NSWCUSA, Ben was a dedicated and talented volunteer trainer. His work in this space is world class. We believe Ben to be the best Umpire Educator in the world.

Ben is self-effacing, but equally determined to do what is right for NSWCUSA in helping the organisation achieve its purpose. He has given time to so many members, willing to share his experience to benefit others.

Ben has displayed significant focus and resilience in his role with the Association, successfully balancing this with his umpiring workload as a member of the Cricket Australia Contracted Umpire Panel.

He is self-reliant, possesses excellent inter-personal and communication skills, and wonderful knowledge of the Laws of Cricket. In terms of Law knowledge, application and ability to teach the Laws, Ben sets the standard.

He has displayed outstanding commitment, desire, passion, and an authentic work ethic. Ben promotes a positive image of himself and umpiring. He and his work are respected State-wide because of the incredible commitment Ben has displayed to education and development of umpires in our New South Wales Country Zones.

Ben is such a wonderful role model, a culture carrier for the NSWCUSA, and he doesnโ€™t pick and choose when he sets example. He leads by example all the time. Ben is respected and he, what he says, his messages, are trusted. He has always been fully committed to the NSWCUSA and this is why the Board was unanimous in its view that he be made a Life member.

Congratulations to Geoff Garland and Ben Treloar on these richly deserved honours, and congratulations to Paul Goldsmith on his election as SCA Chairman.

The strength of cricket in New South Wales is shaped by people who lead, mentor, educate and serve with humility and commitment. Geoff and Ben exemplify those qualities and have made a lasting contribution to generations of players, umpires and administrators. Their achievements are worthy of recognition and celebration.
