A beautiful Sunday at GRSC, with our Optis, ILCA youth, Open Skiffs and Taser fleets out on the water.

A big thanks to Beven from O’pen Skiff - AUS for coming over to share his Open Skiff knowledge with our coaches, parents and sailors.

Flashback Friday ⛵

Terry Goodwin was a GRSC 16ft skiff sailor through the 1970s and 80s. He and his mates bought their skiff from Max Miller and painted it up at Qantas before taking to the water.

Terry skippered, with John Prosser on the sheet and Robert Child as forward hand. They enjoyed eight great years sailing at the club.

The first photo also gives us a glimpse of the beach shape in the 1970s.

We love hearing stories from GRSC’s past and learning more about the people, boats and memories that have shaped our club over the years. Thanks for sharing yours, Terry!

It was all happening at GRSC this Sunday! ⛵

The kids had the Optis, Open Skiffs and ILCA fleet out on the water.

With barely 5 knots of wind in the morning, there was time for a few antics - moonwalking an Opti and exploring the tipping potential of the Open Skiffs 😄

The breeze picked up in the afternoon to challenge our youth fleet.

Great to see the kids outdoors, out on the water and the club full of energy.

Flashback Friday | The Original GRSC Flag

Designed in 1927, shortly after Georges River Sailing Club was established, the original red and white GRSC flag became a familiar symbol of the club’s identity for decades.

Made from wool, with GRSC stitched into the fabric, it was flown from the clubhouse balcony and displayed on the bows of 16ft skiffs and VJs, as well as painted onto their timber hulls.

So why was it changed? As the stitching wore away over time, the letters could become difficult to see. When the flag was raised on the clubhouse balcony, sailors sometimes mistook it for the postponement flag and turned back towards shore.

The design was eventually changed to avoid the confusion, bringing an end to an era for this much-loved club symbol.

Thanks to Lachlan Dixon, who has two original 1960s flags in his collection.

Pictured are
