WHAT A PERFORMANCE🔥
At the end of two gruelling days of competition, Xavier Davie produced a massive personal best in the 1500m to finish in an incredible 15th in the Decathlon at the World Athletics U20 Championships in Oregon.

Xave recorded a total of 7338 points across the ten events, eclipsing his previous state record of 7236 points recorded at the Australian National Championships in April. Along the way Xave recorded three personal bests, with 1.91m in High Jump, 3.90m in Pole Vault and closing out the event with an impressive 4:27.49 in the 1500m. Personal bests are an achievement at at time, but to deliver them on the world stage really is something special.

Behind every incredible athlete is an incredible coach, and Xave has been so very lucky to have Luke Sulzberger guiding him through this journey. Luke has a lifetime of love and involvement in athletes, but it's only in recent years he has turned his hand to coaching with outstanding results. Luke is arguably the hardest working coach in Tasmania at present, and gives a tremendous amount of time to his athletes and the sport as a whole.

From the South Launceston Little Athletics Centre to the world stage, Xavier Davie will make his green & gold debut at the World Athletics U20 Championships in Oregon overnight tonight.

Xavier’s talent as a multi-eventer was evident from the outset, with his Little Athletics Tasmania state records U6 records in 70m and Hurdles still standing today. Xave progressed through the age groups, winning countless state titles in track, jumps and throws along the way, and making his state team debut as a 10yo at the School Sport Australia Championships in Melbourne, where he finished 9th in the Combined Event. Xave has been a regular on the national stage since then, ending his Little Athletics career back where it started with an impressive fifth in the U15 Combined Event at the 2023 ALACs in Melbourne.

Xave announced himself as one to watch at the 2024 Australian All Schools Championships, where he picked up medals in both the 400m and Long Jump . Xave’s 400m time of 47.83 was the fastest time by a Tasmanian athlete for over a decade, and just outside of Simon Hollingworth's U17 Tasmanian record. Xave carried his form through to the 2025 State Champs, winning the Open 400m title and finishing thrid in the 200m. Xave travelled to Perth for the 2025 Australian Junior Championships where he delivered strong results in the 200m and 400m before launching a personal best of 58.76m to win silver in the Javelin.

Injury sidelined Xave for the first half of the 2025-2026 season, with him easing back to competition at the end of January. Xave successfully defended his Tasmanian Open 400m title at the State Championships in March with an impressive 48.22, before dropping a personal best of 11.07 in the U20 100m. In the field, Xave took out the U20 Pole Vault title and finished second in the Open Long Jump, before closing out the Championships by anchoring the UTAS team to gold in the Open 4x400m. In April, Xave headed to Sydney to contest the Australian U20 Combined Events Championships. Despite his injury set back at the start of the season, Xave ended the two days of competition with a World Junior qualifying score of 7236 points, setting new Tasmanian records in the U19 and U20 age groups.

Xave was officially named in his first Australian team in May, alongside fellow Tasmanian athletes Izzy Wing (NL), Bailey Van Den Broek (OVA) and Xavier Leauma (ES).

What a journey!

The World Athletics U20 Championships kick off tonight at 'TrackTown' in Eugene, Oregon 🇺🇸

Tasmania had four athletes lining up in the Green & Gold, including our own superstar Xavier Davie. Xave is joined by fellow multi-eventers Izzy Wing (North Launceston) and Bailey Van Den Broek (OVA), and Hammer thrower Xavier Leauma (Eastern Suburbs).

The first of Xave's ten events will be the 100m at 3am Saturday morning Tas time. While we wait for Xave to start, we will be cheering on his teammates Izzy and Bailey who start their campaigns at 3am Thursday morning in the first of their seven events, the 100m hurdles, and Xavier Leauma will line up in qualifying pool B for Hammer at 5:05am.

Silver for Sebby🥈

Sebastian Hardinge continued his impressive form in Darwin today, winning silver at the Oceania Championships. Repping the green and gold for the first time, Seb cleared 2.01m, the third time he has cleared the 2m mark this season.

The Oceania's get underway in Darwin today with Shannon Wi******er kicking things off in the 100m heats at 12:20 (final at 6:05) and Chanel Charles in the U18 400m Hurdles final at 5:40. In the field, Seb Hardinge will be flying high in the High Jump at 3:10, where he will be looking to build on his 2.05m personal best that saw him take out the Tasmanian Open Championship in March.

Xavier Davie has been named on the Australian Team for the 2026 World U20 Championships🇦🇺

The Championships are being held from the 5th – 9th August at the prestigious Hayward Field at the University of Oregon in Eugene 🇺🇸
Xave was selected following his outstanding performance at the Australian Championships, where he scored beyond the 7100p qualifying standard and set new Tasmanian U19/20 records with a result of 7236 points.

We extend our congratulations to fellow Tasmanian athletes who have also been named on the team, Izzy Wing (North Launceston) and Bailey Van Den Broek (OVA) for Heptathlon, and Xavier Leauma (Eastern Suburbs) for Hammer.

Shannon Wi******er has been named in the Australian team for the Oceania Championships 🇦🇺
This is the second time Shannon will don the green & gold for Australia after making his national team debut at the World Champs in 2025 - not bad for someone who only took up sprinting a little over 12 months ago!

Joining Shannon will be OVA's Alexander McKillop, with both men contesting the 100m.

Chanel Charles and Sebastian Hardinge have been selected to represent Australia at the Oceania Championships in Darwin 🇦🇺
Chanel secured her spot on the team in the U18 400m Hurdles, following a successful campaign at the Australian Junior Champs in Brisbane. Chanel ran an impressive 1:05.09 to win bronze at the championships, her second national medal in the event.

Sebby will continue to display his multi-talents in Darwin, lining up in both the High Jump and Javelin. Seb threw a huge 62.32m to claim the silver in the U18 Javelin at the Australian Junior Championships in Brisbane. While a program clash meant he was unable to challenge for the national High Jump title, Seb's clearance of 2.05m in winning the Tasmanian Open High Jump title was enough to impress selectors.
Seb has also qualified for the Oceania Combined Event Championships which will be held at a later date ⚫⚪🔴

Congrats also to Eastern Suburbs member Palepa Leauma who has also been selected for the U18 team. Palepa jumped up an age group at the Australian Junior Championships, finishing second in both the U18 Discus and Hammer to secure her place on the team.
