So close! Bring on 2027!

It’s a heartbreaking end to the season for the UTAS Lions, going down to Taroona 29-28 in a hard-fought semi final.

Taroona started strongly, scoring the first two tries, but the Lions fought their way back into the game to trail 17–14 at half time. The second half was a back and forth battle, with both sides giving it their all right until the final whistle. In the end, the Lions fell just one point short of a grand final appearance.

Max Nina led well out of position at 10, Jeremy was a constant attacking threat, Tom Burt put in some great runs, and Kal Krautz made a big impact from fullback.

2026 was our first full season as a combined club. Despite fluctuating numbers throughout the season, the boys put in a huge effort every week and continued to compete in every game. It was also great to welcome a number of new and first year players who will help build a strong base for the seasons ahead.

We’re incredibly proud of the boys for making the semi finals and coming so close to a grand final appearance.

Rugby at the WMO this weekend!

The UTAS-Lions Rugby team take on East's this weekend at the WMO!

Calling all Hutchins School Old Boys' Association and other Lions old boys, as well as Tasmanian University Rugby Union Football Club old Boys and our rugby community to come watch the Lions in their must win match.

Cold beers, courtesy of sponsors Hobart Brewing Co. will keep you refreshed, and the usual soft drinks and hot food also available.

Post match gathering is at the Uni Rugby Clubhouse, where the Wallabies will be on the big screen from 8pm.

A big Saturday of rugby is ahead at UTAS!

The UniLions are back at home, taking on Easts with a 3pm kick off 💪

The Golden Oldies will also be taking the field at 1:30pm which "rumour has it" sees the return to the pitch of Lions legends Tex, Cheeno, Adam J and KB!

The bar will be open all day, so make sure you come down and support the team ❤️🖤🦁

Get to the Red Shed this weekend... Actually anytime between now and 2nd to help send off HBCs Macq Point home! Hobart Brewing Co. are our hospitality partner and home of the Lions after a game away from UTAS Rugby. We look forward to celebrating with them at the Hops and Anchor and their new brewery location soon!

Exciting new direction for Junior rugby in the state! This is a great compliment to existing junior club rugby and a way to increase exposure and participation across all ages.

Tomorrow we make a little bit of Rugby history in Tasmania.

The first ever SATIS Rugby Competition kicks off tomorrow afternoon and we cannot wait to see schools from across the south hit the field.

Whether you are brand new to Rugby or already love the game, SATIS Rugby is all about getting involved, having fun with friends, learning new skills and giving something different a go.

Fast. Fun. Social. Competitive.

With both contact and non contact options available, there is something for everyone and we are excited to see more than 400 Tasmanian students experience Rugby through the program across Term 2.

A massive thank you to Rugby Australia for supporting this exciting new initiative, along with all the schools, teachers, volunteers and students helping bring it to life.
