VALE SAM ROBERTS

The University of Tasmania Cricket Club is deeply saddened by the news of the passing of former 1st Grade all-rounder Sam Roberts.

Sam was a highly popular member of the club in his time from the late 80s into the mid 90s.

Sam's name will forever be on UTAS CC's most prestigious honour board winning the Malcom Street Memorial Trophy for club wide Player of the Year in the 1991/1992 season. The next season Sam won the clubs 1st Grade batting average in a team that boasted UTAS (and CTPL) greats Jamie Cox, Dene Hills, Brad Thomas and Mike Graham-Smith. Sam played 70 1st Grade games - culminating in the famous 1996 Kookaburra Cup win against Clarence.

Sam moved on to be a favourite son at Sydney grade club Mosman, returning to Tasmania in recent years to become a premiership coach at SCA club St Virgil's.

The club sends our heartfelt condolences to Sam's family, friends and past Uni teammates.
