The ILCA6 Women’s World Championships start tomorrow in Dublin Bay. Six GBR ILCA6 sailors will be competing.

During the past week, the charter boats in Dún Laoghaire have transitioned from ILCA7s to ILCA6 and the women have been able to practice in Dublin Bay during the day and enjoy the craic of Irish hospitality in the evenings - Hannah even joined in the folk music scene 🎶
Good luck to all the competitors!

The scoring for this event is another new trial system. It’s complicated and SI 18 needs careful reading to understand how it works. I “think” it works as per this graphic, but this is based off the Provisional Results and is not the official….. 🤔

The event will publish what is the official version in due course…..

ILCA7 World Championships
Day 4 photos of the GBR ILCA sailors.

26/08/2026

Two days down for the ILCA7 World Championships in Dun Laoghaire.

The cream is already rising to the top, but the hard work put into the preliminary series of 5 races only counts the overall result going forward into the Final Series.

So tomorrow racing is split into Gold/Silver/Bronze fleets etc.

This evening is the Finals Medal Racing for the top 10 sailors in the Sailing Grand Slam Olympic Classes Regatta on the LA28 Olympic waters of San Pedro. GBR will have 4 sailors competing; Hannah, Matilda, Micky & Elliot.

Winds have varied, but on the whole it has been windy power sailing conditions on relatively flat water with the right being favoured near the Port of Los Angeles.

The event has been trialling the Vakaros RaceSense system, an electronic system for immediate monitoring of OCS, which has resulted in far fewer recalls than is normally seen. It also has the benefit of live tracking for spectators.

Each class will sail 2 Finals Races, the overall scores from the week’s racing will be condensed for the Finals per SI 7.1.7:
The top 10 boats assigned to compete in the Finals will have their Qualification Series score adjusted as follows:
a) When the scoring difference between two consecutive boats is greater than 9 points, the
score of the lower-placed boat will be reduced so that the difference with the boat ahead of her is 9 points.
b) When the scoring difference between two consecutive boats is less than or equal to 9 points
and the score of the boat ahead has been changed, the points difference is maintained by adjusting the lower placed boat’s score.
c) If after applying SI 7.1.7 (a) and (b) the score of any boat is greater than 18 points more than the score of the boat in third place, the score of such a boat will be changed so that the difference is 18 points.
d) If after applying SI 7.1.7(a) to (c) there is a tie between two or more boats, it shall be broken by their rank in the Qualification Series.

The ILCA6 start at 22:30, the ILCA7 at 23:30 (BST) Follow the Finals Medal Racing here:
