๐Ÿ”ฅ From Rubbish to Pancakes! ๐Ÿฅž

Last week, the Sawtell Cubs got hands-on with some clever campcraft as they built hobo stoves, fuelled by buddy burners they made themselves โ€” and of course, we had to put them to the test by cooking pancakes! ๐Ÿฅž๐Ÿ”ฅ

It was a fantastic activity that showed the Cubs how everyday items we might have lying around โ€” or even things we might normally consider rubbish โ€” can be repurposed into a functional emergency stove.

It was great to watch the Cubs working together in their patrols, using tools safely, following instructions and learning some new skills along the way. There was plenty of teamwork, problem-solving and, of course, a delicious reward at the end! ๐Ÿ˜‹

๐ŸŒŸ We still have some spaces available!
If your child would like to come along, learn new skills, make friends and have plenty of adventures, we'd love to see them at Sawtell Cubs.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Come along and give Scouting a try! โšœ๏ธ

This evening, the 1st Sawtell Scout Group headed to the Coffs Harbour Botanic Garden for a special nocturnal tour, generously hosted by volunteer guide Graham.

Our Cubs and Scouts explored the gardens after dark, discovering the fascinating nocturnal creatures that call the gardens home. Along the way, they learned about our incredible local wildlife and experienced the gardens in a way that not many people ever get to see.

A huge thank you to Graham for sharing your time, knowledge and passion with us. It was a fun, engaging and educational evening that everyone thoroughly enjoyed!

Scouting is all about adventure, discovery and creating unforgettable experiences. If your child would like to be part of exciting activities like this, we'd love to welcome you.

๐ŸŒ Happy World Scout Day! โšœ๏ธ

Today marks the anniversary of the very first Scout Camp held on Brownsea Island on 1 August 1907, where Lord Baden-Powell sparked what would become the world's largest youth movement.

More than a century later, millions of Scouts around the world continue to live by the same values of adventure, leadership, service and community. Today we celebrate not only our rich history, but also the incredible impact that Scouting continues to have every single day.

Whether you're leading a Joey, Cub, Scout, Venturer or Rover Unit, supporting our Group Committee, helping maintain our hall, volunteering behind the scenes, or simply lending a hand whenever it's neededโ€”you are helping shape the lives of young people and strengthen our community.

Here at 1st Sawtell Scout Group, we are incredibly fortunate to have an amazing team of volunteers who generously give their time, skills and passion to create life-changing opportunities for our youth. Thank you for everything you do.

Today is also a wonderful opportunity to celebrate those whose outstanding contributions have been recognised through the 2026 Adult Recognition Awards.

๐ŸŽ‰ Congratulations to our award recipients:

๐Ÿ… Meritorious Service Award
Awarded for service above and beyond what would reasonably be expected over a sustained period.
๐Ÿ‘ Jared and Shane โ€“ thank you for your dedication and commitment to Scouting.

๐Ÿ… Special Service Award
Awarded for outstanding support, leadership or a significant contribution to the success of a Section, Formation or major activity.
๐Ÿ‘ Russell (Group Leader), Tania and Elaine โ€“ thank you for the incredible difference you make to our Group and our community.
To every volunteer, past and present, thank you for helping young people grow in confidence, develop skills for life, make lifelong friendships and experience adventures they'll never forget.

Happy World Scout Day, and congratulations to all our deserving award recipients! ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’›

๐Ÿชข Knot So Simple! ๐Ÿชข

What a fantastic night at Cubs!
We kicked off the evening with a game of Marco Polo, brilliantly led by one of our Cubs, Leon. It was wonderful to see Leon step up and confidently lead the game, with everyone getting involved and having a great time.

The Cubs then learned and practised two essential Scouting knots โ€“ the reef knot and the clove hitch. After plenty of practice, it was time to put their new skills to the test with a knot relay challenge!

The competition was incredibly close, with each patrol showing great teamwork and determination. In the end, it was too close to call, so we declared it a draw! ๐Ÿ†

To finish the night, we explored some inspiring pioneering projects and set ourselves an exciting goal. If every Cub can master the square lashing by the end of the year, we'll celebrate by building some awesome pioneering structures together!

At Scouts, every week brings a new adventure, new skills to learn, and new friendships to make.

๐ŸŒŸ Would your child love adventures like this? Weโ€™re always excited to welcome new members!
Come along and experience the fun with a FREE 4-week trial. It's the perfect opportunity to discover
everything Scouting has to offer.

โœจ Glow Wild Adventure! โœจ

What a fantastic way to kick off the new term!

Tonight our Cubs lit up the hall with our Glow Wild Adventure programโ€”a night packed with glowing fun, teamwork and plenty of laughs.

Through a range of exciting glow-in-the-dark challenges and games, our Cubs worked together to build communication, creativity, problem-solving and teamwork skills. One challenge even had them trying to build the tallest tower using nothing but glow sticks... and let's just say we quickly discovered they're not the best building material! ๐Ÿ˜„ The laughter and determination made it one of the highlights of the night.

We can't wait to see what adventures the rest of the term has in store! ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’™

๐ŸŒฟ Where Will Your Scouting Adventure Take You? ๐ŸŒฟ

Hi, I'm Mel, although most people in Scouts know me as LadyBug. ๐Ÿž

My Scouting journey started many years ago as a youth member in both Girl Guides and Scouts. After many years away, I found my way back in 2016 when my son joined Cubs. I thought I would help out for a little whileโ€”first joining the Support Committee, and a few years later becoming a Scout Leader.

Nearly 10 years later, Iโ€™m still here, and I wouldnโ€™t change a thing!

What I discovered was that Scouting gave me so much more than I ever expected. Iโ€™ve learnt new skills, rediscovered my passion for the outdoors, developed my leadership skills, and made some of my closest friendships through the Scouting community.

Along the way I have:
๐Ÿ•๏ธ Completed my leadership training and earned my Wood Badge in 2023
๐ŸŒฟ Received my Silver Wattle Award in 2024 in recognition of my service to Scouting
๐ŸŽ“ Become an Assistant Leader Trainer in 2026, supporting and sharing my love of Scouting with new and developing leaders
๐ŸŒ Travelled, adventured and created amazing memories with Scouts from across Australia and around the world

Iโ€™ve been fortunate to take on many roles during my Scouting journey, including Scout Leader, Leader in Charge, Regional Commissioner, and now Cub Leader at 1st Sawtell Scout Group.

But the best part of Scouting is watching young people growโ€”seeing them challenge themselves, learn new skills, build confidence and achieve things they never thought possible.

Scouting has given me incredible experiences, friendships and opportunitiesโ€”and it all started because I decided to help out.

Could your next adventure be Scouting? ๐ŸŒŸ

There are so many ways to get involved, whether you love the outdoors, enjoy helping young people, or want to be part of an amazing community. No previous Scouting experience is neededโ€”training and support are provided.

A Working With Children Check is required and is free for volunteers.

๐ŸŽฌ What an incredible term it has been!

From adventurous Cubs and Scouts taking on new challenges, to our dedicated leaders learning new skills alongside them, the last few months have been packed with adventure, laughter, friendships and personal growth.

Every activity, whether it's camping, climbing, archery, hiking, problem-solving or simply working together as a team, helps young people build confidence, resilience, leadership and skills for life.

What a way to finish the term!

Last night, the Sawtell Scouts teamed up with 1st Bellingen Scout Group to finish the term with a bang! ๐Ÿง—

The Scouts headed to Ascend Bouldering in Coffs Harbour for an evening packed with fun, challenge and adventure. They pushed themselves on the climbing walls, built confidence, developed new skills, and encouraged each other to take on new challenges.

It wasn't just about climbingโ€”it was also a fantastic opportunity to make new friendships and strengthen connections with Scouts from another Group, all while having an absolute blast.

We couldn't think of a better way to wrap up an epic term, and we can't wait to see what adventures Term 3 has in store!
