🏆 U16 Div 2 CHAMPIONS 🏆

The Scone Thoroughbreds under 16's capped off their junior league careers with a Grand Final win for the ages. The squad of 21 players had a remarkable season, every player improving out of sight.
In blistering heat the boys were revved up and ready to put the red dog pups in the pound. Singleton were first to cross, but it didn't take long for Scone to get back in front after a strong run out of dummy half saw Jackson Foot in next to the sticks. After being assisted out of their half, Singo were in again and the arm wrestle continued. Off the back of a Singleton error, Lewis Brown bamboozled the Singleton defensive line off the scrum, going 30m untouched to dive under the black dot. With seconds on the clock, the red dogs were sniffing at our line when Lewis took an intercept and went the length of the field to score and head into the sheds 18-10.
3 tackles was all it took in the second stanza for Spencer Woodley to do what he's been doing all season. A long ball from Lewis saw Spencer split the line before fooling the fullback and every spectator there with a dummy back inside as he ran through to score. After a bit of an arm wrestle, it felt like the wind was behind us, only for the game to turn on its head. A tough call saw one head to the bin and Singleton scored a few minutes later. A post try tussle saw 2 more Scone players head to the sheds, along with a lone greyhound.
Here's the Netflix pitch, 10 point lead, 10 minutes left, 10 players on the field. No plan, no positions, just run hard, tackle hard, keep moving for your mates. One of the bravest efforts witnessed on a football field, the young men held their opponents at bay until that final whistle blew.
I couldn't be more proud of the amazing young men I've had the pleasure to coach for the last two years. Thanks to all the families, friends and supporters for getting around the team and cheering them through.
