Our committee had one rare opportunity to meet in person this past week —and we made the most of it ⛵️

With Andy, our National President, in Melbourne to drop off his boat ahead of the championship, it was wonderful to gather around the same table instead of meeting over Zoom.

Andy had travelled almost 900 km from Sydney with a J/24 in tow. For many interstate competitors, journeys like this are simply part of the adventure. That willingness to go the distance—quite literally—is one of the many things that makes the J/24 community so special.

Great company, great conversation and plenty of excitement for the championship ahead!

The Epigen J24 World Championships 2026 is shaping up to be something special.

Eight months in a J/24. Three regattas. One place at the Worlds.

BIRUBI's crew is not new to sailing. It is new to the J/24.

Andrew Forbes steers AUS 4787; Katie O'Mara trims; Helena Drega works the mast; Gus Clarke combines tactics and trim; and Roozbeh 'Rooz' Kat takes the bow. They have thousands of offshore miles between them and have raced in different classes around the world, but this is their first season together in a J/24.

Eight months ago, they were the newcomers. After buying a boat, forming a crew, racing three regattas and putting in the road miles between Sydney and Melbourne, they qualified for the 2026 Epigen J/24 World Championship.

Experience brought them to the class. The learning curve is taking them to Melbourne.

The Epigen J24 World Championships 2026 is shaping up to be something special.

In the shed to sort out the small issues from our dust up at the nationals. Super happy to say we’ve received our letter of qualification for the J24 Worlds in November. Time for some training to begin.

Training last night in 20+ knots. It was the first time we had the whole team together for a training session and it was smooooth. Gotta love this team 🤙

Another great day for Katie, Ali, Annie and me (the guest) on the water and good to see the other J’s out. Close racing over a short course meant the corrected finish times were tight 😳 We had our moments but managed to get the scratch win and 3rd on corrected time. Just 39 seconds separated 1-5th. Congratulations to Macie on Okavango Delta. 3 races down and 2 to go. See you all in the new year. Thanks to Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron for running the race and Marg's Yacht Photos for the coverage on the course.
