Last week, Megan and Sharna headed along to the Mitchell Shire Council Sports Forum, joining local sporting clubs, stakeholders, State Sporting Associations and Council representatives to connect, share ideas and talk all things community sport.

A highlight of the evening was hearing from Professor Rochelle Eime, who shared valuable insights into sport participation, what keeps people involved and how we can create positive experiences that encourage people to stay active and connected through sport.

We also heard updates from Mitchell Shire Council covering:
πŸ”Ή Population growth across the Shire
πŸ”Ή Club tenancy arrangements
πŸ”Ή Club and volunteer training opportunities
πŸ”Ή Future facility development
πŸ”Ή High Performance Partnership
πŸ”Ή Fair Access Policy

It was also a great opportunity to catch up with clubs, share experiences and connect with others working to strengthen sport and recreation across Mitchell Shire.

πŸ‘ A big congratulations to Mitchell Shire Council on a fantastic event. It was great to see so many people in the room passionate about supporting strong, welcoming and sustainable community sport!

πŸŽ₯ Every child-safe club needs someone to turn to.

Who would someone contact if they had a child safety concern at your club?

In this short video, child safeguarding expert Sam Dellamarta explains why every club should have a visible Child Safety Officer or safeguarding contact - and why making that person known to players, parents, volunteers and members is just as important as appointing them.

When everyone knows who to approach, clubs create clear pathways for raising concerns, asking questions and accessing support. It's a simple step that helps build a culture of trust, accountability and safety.

Sam also shares why clubs that actively promote child safety send a powerful message about their values - creating welcoming environments for children and young people while discouraging those who may not have the right intentions.

Creating a child-safe club isn't about reacting when something goes wrong - it's about embedding safety into everything your club does.

Most club leaders want to do the right thing.

Sometimes they just need practical tools and the confidence to know where to start.

That’s where Reflect Forward anti-racism training comes in.

These workshops are designed to support coaches and club leaders to recognise racism, respond appropriately when it happens, and build club cultures where everyone feels safe to participate.

If your club is affiliated with AFL Victoria, Basketball Victoria, Cricket Victoria, Football Victoria, Netball Victoria, NRL Victoria, or Tennis Victoria – reach out to our team to find out more about how you can book a subsidised anti-racism workshop for your club.

πŸŽ₯ Child safety starts before the first whistle.

Creating a child-safe club isn't just about responding to issues - it's about putting the right foundations in place from the very beginning.

In this short video, child safeguarding expert Sam Dellamarta explains why embedding child safety into your club's recruitment, induction and coach appointment processes is one of the most effective ways to build a positive, safe and welcoming environment for everyone.

By taking a proactive approach, clubs can strengthen their culture, attract the right people and reduce the risk of issues arising in the future.
