Soldiers Point Tennis Club coaching program is taking a short break over the school holidays but will resume on Monday 20th July with a 4 week Junior Hot Shots and Adult Clinic program for term 3. Term 3 is a shortened scheduled as Keith is away for a month but term 4 is a full 8 week program.
Hope everyone is enjoying Wimbledon unfortunately our last standing Aussie Alex de Minaur lost in a tough 4th round battle. Will Djokovic create history and win another title or will Sinner return to normal at the top or will Zverev win back to back Grand Slam titles or will it be a fairytale win for the hometown 114 ranked Arthur Fery??? The women’s is just as interesting, Naomi Osaka is a firm favourite after comprehensively beating Sabalenka and she has a great record in grand slams once reaching the quarterfinals. The winner of the Jess Pegula and Coco Gauff quarterfinal will definitely challenge for the title or will Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk or Italy’s Jasmine Paolini surge to the top??? An interesting fact, the last 10 Wimbledon women’s champions, including this year, is a different player. No women player has won two Wimbledon titles in the past 10 years. WOW!!! Great watch enjoy. 😁🎾

It’s that time of year where tennis fans get excited!!! Grand Slam heaven with the French Open starting last Sunday and Wimbledon around the corner. Australia has 13 players, 7 men and 6 women, in the main draw of the French Open. Alex De Minaur is the most likely to progress to the second week and it was great to see Thanasi Kokkinakis win his first round match after a marathon 4 1/4 hours on court in 5 sets. Kokkinakis returning from multiple injuries and surgeries showed great grit and determination to to produce some exhilarating tennis. His next match should an excellent watch. Our women struggled on the clay but newly nationalised Daria Kasatkina won her first match comfortably and could push some of the higher ranked players especially with her recent improved form. Keep watching, channel nine has an excellent coverage. The nuance’s and tactical challenges on the slower clay provide tennis enthusiasts with enthralling viewing. Despite the unsavoury hours I encourage all tennis players to switch on, you will learn plenty, the commentary is excellent and the matches exciting. Will Sinner continue his unbelievable dominance of the men’s tour and Sabalenka overturn a couple of unexpected recent losses to take the titles??

Soldiers Point Tennis Club commenced its term 2 Junior Hot Shots classes last Monday with all students smiling and enthusiastic to learn. Congratulations both Isabelles and Charlottes, William and Connor your energy was outstanding and skill development impressive.
Looking forward to helping you enjoy your tennis journey. The winter months can be challenging but I am certain these young players will continue to bring joy and commitment to every lesson.

COACHES THOUGHTS!!!
We all love playing tennis but how often do we hear it’s an individual game not a team game. WRONG!!! A very high percentage of club tennis may it be social play or competition is doubles, a team game. So for best outcomes develop a team mindset. A team that plays together wins more often and sharing the losses is less painful.
Some tips to maximise team cohesion!!!
If possible play with like minded partners. It’s always more fun if you have a relationship with your partner/ friend.

Work together in playing to each other’s strengths. For example if your partner is left handed most likely they will be stronger on the backhand side. Having them play on that side is of greater value to the team. Develop a team game plan to exploit opponents weaknesses and be prepared to adjust the plan if it’s not working. Always backup your partner. Even when your partner is preparing to hit a shot you too are preparing in case they miss their attempt.

Positive communication is critical, praising good shots, great efforts and smart tactics goes a long way.

Encourage moving forward nobody is perfect so when an error is made conversation is about the next play not the past.

Remember you are the partner / team mate not a coach. Nobody appreciates consistent analysis of of their game when they trying to focus on the next play.

Finally the best team mates are always willing to adapt for the sake of the team, they enjoy each other’s company even “chewing the fat” at the change of ends creates a positive atmosphere and above all they leave with a smile on their face with a promise to return and mean it.

Enjoy playing TEAM TENNIS it’s a wonderful experience win or lose.

WHAT IS CARDIO TENNIS???
Well every time I am on the court and my hitting partner thinks it’s a great idea to show off his talents by hitting the ball from one sideline to the other repeatedly I am doing cardio tennis. We keep score 150 to 160 to 170 bpm and then submission!!! We finish the hit and after comprehensively losing the game he tells me how well I am moving!!! Unable to hold a coherent conversation I trudge off to the water cooler vowing to return fitter and faster. But will I???
YES, YES, YES!!!
Thanks to a tennis marketing genius we have Cardio Tennis group training courses with loads tennis drills and activities with the emphasis on movement and fun. You taylor the intensity of your workout to your fitness level and technical ability and everybody is a winner. It’s the one training session I leave with a smile the coaches and classmates are so encouraging. WOW!!! my fitness improves without those dreaded hill sprints.
