WESTERN PORT BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION NEWS:
MILLA L INTO STATE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM!
Milla’s basketball journey is proof of what can happen when determination meets hard work.
She only started playing basketball at the end of October 2024. Before she had even played a game, she tried out for Junior Representative with the Western Port Steelers and was selected as an emergency for the U16.4s. A few weeks later, she became a registered player.
She started with limited basketball knowledge and very little court time, but she was determined to improve. She worked hard, learned quickly and, by the end of the season, was spending very little time on the bench.
In 2026, Milla earned a spot in the U16.1s and was later invited to train with the BigV Senior Representative Youth Women’s team.
After just a few sessions, she was asked to register and played her first senior game at only 14 years old. Her U16.1s went on to win their VJBL Grand Final, with Milla taking home MVP.
Then she challenged herself again, trying out for Vic Country SDP, (State Development Program, part of Basketball Victoria's High Performance Pathways), as a bottom-age player, mainly for the experience and the opportunity to see what the next level looked like. One week later, she received her letter of offer to join the SDP program.
Hard work matters. Believing you belong matters. And Milla’s story is only just beginning.
