Did you know that many mums are suffering in silence thinking that injuries or symptoms caused by pregnancy or childbirth are something they should now live with for the rest of their lives.
What’s more we as trainers don’t see or hear about these issues because we can’t see them and they often don’t cause her pain.
We ask her ‘if she feels okay’ and she is potentially driven by an aesthetic or performance goal so she answers ‘yes’ and continues on.
If this is all we do, if we take her word for it without asking more, the exercise we give her could further weaken her pelvic floor or increase symptoms or severity of a prolapse.
If instead we ask all of the much needed pre-exercise questions about her pregnancy and birthing experience, teach her about her pelvic floor, talk about prolapse & educate on the value of seeing a Women’s Health Physiotherapist we can then create an exercise plan that meets her where she is at, rebuilds strength from the inside out and helps her to reach her goals safely and effectively.
