🏏 Weekend Wrap-Up: Oct 10–11 Scores & Highlights! 🏏

Another massive weekend of action across all Saturday and Sunday grades in the Mercantile Cricket Association! From stellar centuries to tight finishes and T20 battles, check out some of the standout performances from across the divisions:

Centuries Galore: Big congrats to the players who reached triple digits this weekend, including J Slater (Flemington Colts), J Black (South Yarra), A Wilson (Barkly St Dragons), Aman Singh (Monash Uni), S Sethi (TTS), M Marszal (South Yarra), R Baig (Sunrise), and W Newman (Canterbury)! đź’Ż

Top Team Totals & Thrillers: Monash Uni put on a massive show with 4-340 in B Sunday, while Carnegie posted 6-349 in C South. Plenty of close T20 encounters kept players and spectators on edge right down to the final overs.

Fantastic Bowling Figures: Great spells of tight bowling and multiple wickets claimed by the likes of M Modi, O Ingham, N Singh, V Goyat, S Bogli, D Tiwari, and A Tiyagi. 🎯

✉️ A Message from our MCA President for 2026–27 Season 🏏

Dear players, club members and supporters,

Welcome to the 2026–27 Mercantile Cricket Association season. Whether you are returning to a familiar club or joining our competition for the first time, I wish you a rewarding and enjoyable summer of cricket.

The beginning of a season brings plenty to look forward to: reconnecting with teammates, welcoming new players and putting months of preparation into practice. Across the MCA, it is also an opportunity to celebrate the people and clubs that make our cricketing community special.

I would like to thank the MCA Executive, committee members and umpires for the time, care and effort they devote to our Association. Their work throughout the year provides the foundation for our competitions and helps support our clubs both on and off the field.

My sincere thanks also go to the volunteers within every club. Preparing grounds, organising teams, scoring matches and keeping a club running takes considerable commitment. Much of this work happens quietly behind the scenes, but its importance cannot be overstated. To everyone who lends a hand, thank you.

As we begin the new season, we want the MCA to be a place where players of different ages, backgrounds and abilities feel welcome and have the opportunity to contribute. Supporting our clubs and creating opportunities for people to get involved will remain central to our approach.

I encourage everyone to compete wholeheartedly while showing respect for opponents, umpires and teammates. The spirit in which we play matters just as much as the results we achieve. Every player, official and supporter has a role in making match days positive and enjoyable.

For all the excitement of close finishes and individual milestones, community cricket offers something that lasts well beyond a season: friendship, connection and a sense of belonging. Those qualities are worth protecting and celebrating.

On behalf of the MCA Executive, I wish every club a successful 2026–27 season. I look forward to catching up with many of you around the grounds and sharing in the achievements of our clubs and players.

Covers are in use Saturday morning and pitch checks are not required.

Covers must be removed an hour before play. They are not required Saturday night and must be dried and stowed away by the home side. For T20 double-headers, the home side for the first T20 is responsible.

Due to several grounds still being out, including all of Fawkner Park, Brunswick, Keilor, Ormond Park and Shipston, numerous relocations and T20 double-headers have been necessary to get all teams onto the park and the season under way.
Please see the PlayHQ for the changes.

In a transferred game, the original home side is still required to supply match balls. Other home side duties, including Tea, belong to the side denoted. Note that Tea is not required for a T20.

Several important points to note:
PlayHQ is the "source of truth" for fixturing. The PlayCricket app can be unreliable for picking up changes due to sync'ing issues.
Any 1pm matches on PlayHQ are 80 over games, due to one side having junior commitments in the morning

Covers are required to go down on Friday night.

Check the MCA website on Saturday morning after 7.30am to see if club inspections and reports at 8.30am are required

All Round 1 matches have now been abandoned.

While most matches were abandoned by Wednesday evening, and others progressively over Thursday and then Friday morning, hopes that club curators at Dane Rd and Greenwich Reserve could at least use Sunday morning to finish off pitches have been dashed overnight.

Round 2 home sides outside the City of Melbourne are again required to advise via email by Wednesday 10am whether their curator is able to prepare a pitch for next weekend.

Sunday @ Dane Rd: Racing v Monash Uni, A Sunday (12pm, T20)
Sunday @ Dane Rd: Racing v Strikers, C South (3pm, T20)
Sunday @ Canterbury: Canterbury v S.Yarra (12pm, 90 over match)

All other matches are ABANDONED.

COVERS are very likely to be needed in the last half of the coming week. Saturday home sides please be ready to move into action from Wednesday evening onwards, once we see how the weather pans out.

PITCH REPORTS will also be needed from home sides outside the City of Melbourne on Wednesday evening. I need to know via email -- will you have a pitch up or not?
