MELBOURNE COUNTER-TERRORISM ARREST
Australian authorities have charged a 65-year-old Melbourne man, Mohamed Musse Bakit, over alleged links to the terrorist organisation ISIS.
According to the Australian Federal Police and Victoria Police, the man was arrested in Carlton on 23 September 2026 following a long-running investigation that began after an Australian Border Force interception at Melbourne Airport in 2020.
Authorities allege that approximately 10,000 extremist files were shared through an encrypted messaging platform, including violent ISIS propaganda and material allegedly providing instructions relating to mass-casualty attacks and evading law enforcement.
The accused has been charged with five terrorism-related offences and remains in custody while his legal proceedings continue. He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
Police have stated that he was not linked to any specific planned attack and that there was no immediate physical threat to the local community.
