Spreyton Cricket & Community Club

A fantastic article on a pioneer of Maidstone Park. Well done Ted and the Spreyton Eagles Football Club on acknowledging this achievement

He arrived not knowing how to kick a footy. 70 years later, he is an icon.

Now we’re talking.

A big thank you to Nick Reeman, who sent this one through after seeing our 80th anniversary posts.

This is exactly what we’re looking for.

We know who they are. We know the year. And we know what this team achieved.

But we’re not telling you yet.

First, let’s see how good the collective Spreyton memory is.

Who can tell us:

What year was this?
Who are the players?
And what did this side achieve?

There are a couple of clues in the photo for anyone paying attention.

We’ll reveal the full details after you’ve had a crack at it.

And more importantly, keep these coming.

If you’ve got old Spreyton team photos, presentation photos, newspaper clippings, scorebooks or other bits of club history tucked away somewhere, send them through.

Nick went digging and found this.

What have you got?

80 years. Thousands of stories. One club.

Another one from the Spreyton archives.

A shield in front, eleven blokes in whites, and some genuinely committed 1970s hair.

We know there’ll be people following the page who can tell us far more about this photo than we can.

Who are they? What year was it? And what’s the story behind the shield?

More importantly, what do you remember about this side?

Who made the runs?

Who took the wickets?

Who was considerably better at telling everyone about their performances afterwards?

As we celebrate 80 years of Spreyton Cricket Club, we’re trying to put more than names and dates against these old photographs. We want the stories that went with them.

So if you recognise yourself, a teammate, your dad, your grandfather, your mate; tag them below and help us fill in the gaps.

And if you’ve got old Spreyton photos sitting at home, send them our way.

80 years. Thousands of stories. One club.

Sometimes it’s about the cricket… Sometimes it’s about the hair doo.
Do we bring some of these styles back in our 80th year?
Some may say they never left. Others may give it a hard no!!!
Feel free to tag the chap who has the best style worth revisiting.

What’s the single best Spreyton performance you’ve seen? Was it a 5fa? Ton? Something amazing?

Where the hell is everyone?

Spreyton A reserve, 09/10.

Premiership photo sent in by Jason Mace.

Some of these blokes probably still see each other regularly.

Some probably haven't been in the same room for a decade.

And we're rather curious to see how far this photo can travel.

If you're in it, say g'day.

If you know someone in it, tag them.

If they're not on Facebook, send it to them.

And if somebody's been living interstate for 10 years and has absolutely no idea we're doing this…

Ruin the surprise.

We're getting generations of Spreyton Cricket Club back together for our 80th year anniversary on November 14th.

Let's see how many of this lot we can find.

Alright. Who took the best catch in Spreyton’s history?

06/09/2026

A cricket club isn't built by eleven people.

It's built by people like, well too many names to mention really.

There are names that appear in scorebooks.

And then there are people who made sure there was a club there for everyone else to play for.

As we work through Spreyton's history this anniversary year, we want to make sure those stories aren't forgotten.

If you've got a memory or photo, add it below.

And if there's somebody from Spreyton's history you think deserves to be recognised, tell us who.

04/09/2026

Righto, Spreyton historians. You're up.

We have this photo.

And rather than pretending our records are perfect, we're throwing it open to the people who were actually there.

Who can name everyone?

Back row, left to right.

Front row, left to right.

Absolutely no bonus points for confidently naming the wrong bloke and starting a family argument.

We'll update the club archive with what we can verify.

Have at it.
