67 years of community, aquatics and performance.
One incredible legacy.
A few weeks ago, we gathered at Centenary Pool for one final sunset. 🌅
For 67 years, this iconic place has been part of Brisbane’s story, a place where communities came together, generations learned to swim, athletes trained, careers began, friendships were formed and countless memories were made.
But Centenary’s greatest legacy isn’t the building.
It’s the people.
CVM has been privileged to be one of Centenary’s custodians for more than 16 years. Through Rackley Swimming, we’ve taught thousands of children to swim, supported swimmers through Rackley Swim Team, and watched athletes under Damien Jones go on to represent Australia and compete on the world stage.
But beyond the lessons, lanes and medals, we’ve been part of something bigger. We are a community that has made Centenary what it is.
A special thank you to Cr. Vicki Howard for helping us celebrate this remarkable legacy, and to our long-standing team members Mel Murphy, Jenny Green and Michelle Scudamore for the care, commitment and community they have built here over so many years.
There’s a saying that feels particularly fitting, "We don’t own places like Centenary. We simply get our turn looking after them." And now, the baton passes to a new chapter, as this site moves towards becoming part of the National Aquatic Centre for Brisbane 2032.
While this chapter closes for now, we hope it won’t be goodbye forever. Thank you to everyone who has been part of the Centenary Pool community, past and present.
